5.0 out of 5 stars Finaly the Real Facts about Pregnancy Oct. 22 2006
By A Customer
Dr. Broder addresses the myths and misconceptions surrounding pregnancy. As a RAND researcher and OB GYN at UCLA he gives you the reasoning and scientific support to why it's ok to dye your hair, drink coffee, and travel. It is written in a down to earth style, by someone who who obviously knows his stuff. If your contemplating having a baby or already pregnant, this is a ' must read'. Health care providers who treat women of child bearing age would also benefit from reading this book. My OB GYN told me about this book. It has a lot of information that most phsycians don't have the time to investigate. The writing style is straightforward and funny. Now I have real scientific facts to support my choice to exercise during pregnancy, eat sushi (only the type Dr. Broder suggests), fly during my sixth month to my brothers wedding. I can drink a glass of wine and not worry about those dirty looks. Research shows it's all safe! Get the book for you or a friend. It's great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dr. Broder is Gods Gift to Pregnancy June 12 2004
When I first found out I was pregnant, I ran to the bookstore. Every book in the pregnancy section made me more and more nervous. After an hour of browsing I never thought I'd make it through the next nine months. Then I found Dr. Broder's brand new Panic-Free Pregnancy, the When I first found out I was pregnant, I ran to the bookstore. Every book in the pregnancy section made me more and more nervous. After an hour of browsing I never thought I'd make it through the next nine months. Then I found Dr. Broder's brand new Panic-Free Pregnancy, the only sane voice in a sea of anxiety-inducing "advice."
I have just finished reading it cover to cover and am about to rush out for sushi--because now I know I can!!! I know the truth about drinking wine and coffee and what I can do about morning sickness. I know all the things those other books don't tell you. Dr. Broder backs up his research with hard science and published studies. This book has come out just in time for me and should be every pregnant woman's bible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank GOD for this book - a MUST read. Sept. 7 2006
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this book. Like so many of the women here, I found the early stages of pregnancy to be one gigantic scarefest by just about everyone I ran into. The misconceptions & myths about what is & isn't safe in pregnancy are astounding. Prior to reading this book, I felt that the 'advice' thrown at you by even strangers on the street to be sometimes just illogical & MEANT to scare you. Someone actually told me that under no circumstances should I even TOUCH raw chicken when pregnant because the salmonella could enter my skin through my fingernails!?! I couldn't help thinking that if every woman had to follow every 'rule' set forth by some of this ridiculous advice, humans as a species would have come to an end long ago. Thank GOD for Dr. Broder for writing this book and allowing me to embrace this experience & not be terrified by it. I only wish I could actually have him as my OB-GYN to deliver my baby!! A MUST read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Puts things into perspective Jan. 23 2011
I read this book when I was pregnant with my first child, and it really puts things into perspective when it comes to the many myths/beliefs/scares surrounding pregnancy. It's well written and structured around questions that pregnant women may have, making it easy to focus on the areas one is wondering about. It's based on research and therefore very fact oriented, there are no pictures and no touchy-feely accounts.

All in all a good read for an anxious mother to be, or for a mother to be surrounded by over-anxious loved ones.

This is a must have for anyone who is or wants to be pregnant. It is amazingly frank and useful. I've already given it to my sister and will share it with other friends who become pregnant. Dr. Broder gives you all the information you need to make smart and comfortable decisions about what you can and can't do when you're pregnant. Forget the wives' tales -- He goes over everything from tuna to hair dye to let you know what to avoid and what's ok. After reading it you'll wish he could be your doctor too!

5.0 out of 5 stars EASED SO MANY OF MY CONCERNS June 3 2004
By A Customer
This was a great read, that eased many of my concerns about pregnancy with clear answers backed up by research. My doctor made pregancy seem like the end of life as I knew it and this book really put things into perspective. I feel like I learned a lot about having a healthy but not neurotic pregnancy. The book answered many of the questions my girlfriends and I discuss but don't have answers to. I highly suggest reading this book - it's got stuff in it even my second-time-mom friends don't know about.
