5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting Victorian Period Egyptian Adventure, Aug 7 2006
By
M. Rondeau (West Springfield, MA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Panther and the Pyramid (Mass Market Paperback)
Author Bonnie Vanak returns to the land of Egypt in an exciting adventure that features Graham Tristan. Graham is an English noble who as a young boy, saw his parents slaughtered before his very eyes, captured by a cruel sheik, tortured and defiled he was later rescued and lived for a time with members of the elite Khamsin Egyptian Warriors of the Wind. Eventually discovered to be the heir to a dukedom he returned to England to assume his title. Now Graham is a man, who fears and is feared but who lives with nightmares. Haunted by nightmares of a woman with green eyes and red hair who he feels will threaten to expose all he holds dear or possibly destroy him.

Lady Jillian had been browbeaten; forced by an uncaring father to obey without question, her desires not considered; to be sold to the highest bidder for political gain. Rebellion would be the first step in escaping from the cruel oppressive hand of her father, and Jillian would choose to sell that which her father thought to barter away for his own gain. Never did she think that the man who took her virginity would also nourish a heart that she would later willingly give him as they faced danger upon danger in search of a priceless treasure traveling across the Egyptian desert.

This was an exciting sensual adventure of two enormously wounded people who for reasons of their own were destined to meet, to test, and to heal one another. With a very accomplished pen the author opens up and scrutinizes their very souls and psyche with vivid imagery. One caution issued here is that the instances of the torture that while not graphic in content may be disturbing. The well-fleshed out characters were complex with a myriad of emotions lying beneath the surface and were tweaked to perfection. Kudos must be given the author who also gives one of the most emotionally selfless examples of a man proving his love to protect the woman he loved that I have ever seen. Bravo, for this extremely satisfying and sensual read I highly recommend!

This review is from: The Panther and the Pyramid (Mass Market Paperback)
Graham Tristan's dreams have been haunted by the image of a red headed beauty he has never seen until the night he chooses to lose his virginity. The woman who is doing the same with him's wig slips, revealing her to be the dream lady. Then, later, at a more formal affair, he sees her again. She is Jillian, the daughter of the man who abused him long ago in the most unspeakable of ways. She needs to escape before her father can sell her, and Graham offers her a rescue, become his wife. Jillian finds she has no choice but to wed this enigmatic man who is unwilling to share himself beyond the barest of details. However, when an emergency forces Graham to go on a treasure hunt, Jillian proves to be the key to not only his success, but to his heart.

*** Lush, exotic backgrounds provide for a hypnotic setting. Despite the brilliant sunlight, the tone is rather dark much of the time. This is no gentle romance, but one where revenge and passion take center stage. ***

I've loved all of Bonnie Vanak's books for the exotic setting, but also for the very sensual, very emotional read she delivers. THE PANTHER & THE PYRAMID might be my favorite yet!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story of love and redemption, Oct 9 2006
By D. Jenner - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Panther and the Pyramid (Mass Market Paperback)
Once I started reading this book I gobbled it up in no time. This is truly a wonderful story of two lost and lonely people finding and healing each others wounded souls. Graham Tristan has a secret he can't tell anyone. Abused as a child, he doesn't believe he is deserving of love. Jillian, the heroine, has been kept under strict control all her life. It isn't until she meets Graham and he encourages her to be her true self that she really begins to live. Much of this book takes place in Eygpt and the author does a wonderful job of portraying the exotic local. This is simply a wonderful book!
