This review is from: The Panzers (DVD)
THE PANZERS is presented in 8 CDs, each approximately an hour long. The documentary appears to be a collection of clips nicely edited from WW2 German newsreels. Narrated in English, most of the original German audio can be heard in the background. Each disc features a particular type or a range of types of combat vehicle. Pretty much the entire list of vehicles actually used by German forces during WW2 are shown in action and their uses and general technical characteristics described, including the early Panzer Kampfwagen (PzKw) I and II, the PzKw III and IV, PzKw V (Panther), PzKw VI (Tiger I and II), SturmGeschutz (StuG) III and IV), the various tank-destroyer vehicles (Panzerjaeger: Marder, Hetzer, Nashorn, Jagdpanther, Jagdtiger, and more), half-tracks, reconnaissance vehicles, and self-propelled artillery. There are interesting comparisons with related Allied equipment. There is occasional redundancy from disk to disk, but, as I recall, the same scenes don't recur on more than two disks, and such scenes enable each disk to be viewed and appreciated independently from the other disks. Given the importance of these weapons in the warfare of their time and their influence on the evolution of present weapons, this documentary constitutes an extremely interesting historical supplement.

Just the facts and details, Sep 30 2011

This review is from: The Panzers (DVD)
The Panzers covers the various vehicles and evolution in impressive depth and detail. Throughout the series the narration is relevant and knowledgeable about the film footage and the minute details of the vehicles in the films.
Panzers is good about covering production runs and how vehicles were allocated to units.
It looks like you can buy the DVDs individually, but I'd recommend getting the whole series as it provides a more complete historical view. The box set is on 8 DVDs, individually boxed and shrink wrapped. It's nice that they aren't all crammed into a single jewel box. However, the set is a bit space inefficient in that each DVD only contains about an hour of video. The entire set could probably consolidated down to 3 DVDs.

Five of DVDs not only give you information about development, design, production, and performance of Germany's Panzers but also three of the DVDs, focus on Assault Guns, German Military Vehicles, and Mobile Heavy Artillery. The DVDs on the Panzers, if watched in order, also give a very good view and history of the Second World War from the German point of view. This DVD set would go wonderfully with others, such as The Green Devils: German Paratrooper Elite and Victory by Air: A History of the Aerial Assault Vehicle I would also suggest some books - GERMAN ARMOURED CARS OF WORLD WAR TWO, Captured Weapons & Equipment of the German Wehrmacht 1938-1945 (Schiffer Military/Aviation History), German tanks of World War II: The complete illustrated history of German armoured fighting vehicles, 1926-1945, and German Tanks of World War Two in Action.
