Product Description

From Amazon.com

Though this film is a relatively minor one in the massive canon of Peter Sellers, it has moments of absolute hilarity. Written and directed by Blake Edwards, one of Sellers's most fertile collaborators, the film stars Sellers as a would-be actor from India (let them try to get away with that today) who is a walking disaster area. After ruining a day's shooting as an extra on a film, he finds himself unintentionally invited to a big Hollywood party. That's pretty much it as far as plot goes, but Edwards and Sellers know how to milk a simple idea for an unending string of slapstick gags. The result is a film that is episodic and sketchy, but also frequently loony in an inspired way. --Marshall Fine

5.0 out of 5 stars Birdy Num Nums, Feb 2 2010

Oh, gosh golly, I am telling you this is one of the finest Mr. Peter Sellers performances in his film career. You should be seeing this in the cinema but this digital video disc will have to do. The man is a genius for he is portraying an Indian film star in a most accurate way. All that is missing from these hijinks is a Bollywood number as Mr. Sellers attends a Hollywood party and is mingling and talking the small talking.

Plus Ms. Claudine Longet is playing the sexy and French woman that gets me most delighted. Oh to be going back in the time to the 1968 would be quite grand that is one thing I do know.

They are certainly not making of the films like this in Hollywood anymore. Maybe because of the political correctingness they cannot be making such a film but even in the century of 21st it still is tickling the funny bone.

Please be watching this and I am guaranteeing you will be laughing all the film long.

The Party is an oldie but a goodie. It has lots of slow building, silent laughable moments (like Mr. Bean sort of).

A film that would/could never be made today.... I have to say all of my Indian friends adore this movie.....I purchased this as a gift for a contractor from Bangalore.... he has watched it over 20 times and regales everyone with "birdie-num-nums" on a regular basis....that and his favourite Dubai radio "tell me" skit...
