Book Description

On a calm moonlit night, as the scent of jasmine and pine embraced the island of Ascension, the pirate prince Lazar di Fiori returns with lethal grace to avenge what was stolen from him: his kingdom, his birthright, his soul. . . .

Allegra Monteverdi, the daughter of Lazar's sworn enemy, proves an uncommonly powerful adversary. She throws herself on his mercy, her courage and beauty touching his cold, unforgiving heart. He agrees to spare the lives of her family--but only if Allegra sails away with him as his captive. For his quest for vengeance still burns fiercely, and he will settle for nothing less than Allegra's body and soul.

Alone at sea with this dark, intriguing man, moving between seduction and fear, Allegra gazes into eyes as deep and mysterious as the night and sees who this pirate really is. Lazar--the prince of her childhood dreams. Though he was rumored to be murdered years ago, she always believed someday he would return. But it will take more than her love for this pirate prince to bring peace to her beloved home. For Lazar must face the demons of his shattered past--if he is to forge the destiny that is theirs to claim. . . .

From the Publisher

This is a debut novel not to be missed! As an editor and an avid romance reader, I'm always on the hunt for fresh material that excites me, that takes me away, that reminds me why I started reading romance in the first place. The Pirate Prince by Gaelen Foley is definitely one of those books. She combines everything that is essential for a wonderful historical with a sweeping story full of adventure, passion and intrigue. I've read this book quite a few times as I've worked on it, but no matter how many times I go over it, even if it's just checking corrections on the page proofs, I'm drawn into the story of Allegra and Lazar all over again. These people really stay with you. Oh, and just a warning--be prepared for one of the sexiest heroes ever to grace the page! Shauna Summers, Senior Editor

5.0 out of 5 stars spectacular, Feb 29 2004

The Pirate Prince is one of the best Foley books out there...and Foley is not a second-rate author! It will take you on a fantastic voyage that you'd never expect in a romance book.

Lazar di Fiore was cheated from his rightful throne as king of Ascencion and Allegra is the daughter of his archenemy.

As he fights to conquer his inner demons and find the strength to return to his kingdom and continue his family's seven hundred year rule, the connection between him and Allegra grow deep, with Lazar revealing nearly all his secret anguish.

Allegra, now knowing what a traitor her father is, is determined to help Lazar gain back his pride, honor, and kingdom at any price...even if she has to give up her heart.

As always, Ms. Foley brings a whole new dimension to romance, faultlessly bringing her characters to life and weaving an intricate tale that involves so much more than your ordinary fairytale, yet there is no denying that the characters' love for each other is soul-binding and everlasting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Intense, almost too much., Dec 11 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Pirate Prince (Mass Market Paperback)
I have to give it to Gaelen Foley, she is a very good writer and is very intense. This is the second book of hers I have read. I also read Lady of Desire. I have to say that I enjoyed that book a lot more than this one. Don't get me wrong, this book had some great plot climax's, but I couldn't get passed the horrible way Lazar treated Allegra. I know he was doing it because he couldn't fathom lossing her, but he went WAY overboard. If I were her, I would have slapped him and took off an made him come find me on the island. I agree with another reviewer that thought he needed to try a little harder to get her back, she took him back too quickly in my opinion. I enjoyed the begining of the book, but wasn't as thrilled by the end of it.

All things said, however, I would still recommend it as a read to anyone interested. I will more than likely read the next series, "The Princess." The previewed first chapter caught my interest.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great beginning-Poor ending, Dec 7 2003

I enjoyed this book until I got to the last few chapters. It then lost the rhythm, and skill of the rest of the book. It almost felt as if Ms. Foley had a deadline to meet and rushed through the ending without tying up all the loose ends. I don't want to give away any of the ending, but what happened to the Princess? Did she just fade away? Why did Allegra just accept Lazar, even after all the atrocious things he said to her? I think he should have had to fight a little harder to make it up to Allegra.
