Praise for The Power of Inclusion

"Diversity and inclusion are among the most challenging tasks an executive is faced with these days. This book does a great job of helping the reader understand why this is important and what to do about it."

Bart Butzer, Executive Vice President for Stores, Target Corporation

"Mike Hyter and Judy Turnock describe with precision and clarity the next step on the journey from diversity to inclusion. This book is a must read for anyone interested in helping corporations compete more successfully in the global economy."

Price M. Cobbs, M.D., Author, My American Life: From Rage to Entitlement

"Mike Hyter’s new book resonates with my belief that diversity and inclusion are critical elements in any company’s long-term success. Doing this right goes beyond having a strategic understanding of the topic, but requires a process that companies can follow. This book helps provide the trail-map."

Sally Jewell, President and CEO, REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.)

"Finally a straightforward approach! Hyter and Turnock have taken a complex, multi-faceted subject and made it practical, implementable and measurable. Here’s why it is critical for organizations to focus on the people side of the employment equation, because failure to do so threatens our ability to remain competitive."

O. Redia Anderson, Chief Diversity Officer, National Principal, Diversity & Inclusion, Deloitte & Touche USA LLP

"The Power of Inclusion brings much-needed transparency: the lack of full inclusion or full human capital engagement is a direct drain on shareholder value."

Ronald C. Parker, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, PepsiCo North America

"Finally, here is a book on implementing organizational diversity strategy that is practical and action oriented rather than abstract theorizing. It is a must read for any CEO or general manager who wants to address diversity and inclusion in a strategic and sustainable manner."

David A. Thomas, H. Naylor Fitzhugh Professor of Business Administration and Senior Associate Dean, Harvard Business School

Product Description

There is an enormous amount of wasted potential within organizations today because most do not adequately tap in to the wealth of human capital available to them. Most organizations believe that they are meritocracies, but that is a myth that masks the real situation of unequal opportunity that exists in most firms. Exclusionary tendencies are built into leadership, management, and human resources practices that perpetuate unequal opportunity. Most companies “sort and select,” hiring others most like themselves, and focus training and development on those who are identified as high potential.

This book makes a business case for a new inclusive model of human resource development, driven by the demands of increasingly diverse workplaces and continuing expansion of the global economy. It demonstrates that people who succeed often acquire their talent because of the development attention they have received, and it shows how to create a culture of inclusion and development to unlock employee potential and productivity.

The authors ’ approach — developing talent in all employees and aligning human resource systems and senior leadership commitment with that goal — is a response to a business challenge facing corporate North America today. The patterns of exclusion and preference that limit human potential are universal; this book offers management insights for any corporate audience serious about maximizing productivity in the competitive global economy.

Would love to companies actually do the actions of the book. It could change American business as we know it.
The is true diversity and inclusion work. If we had truly inclusion environments based on the actions in this book, companies would see profit abound.

5.0 out of 5 stars He Walks the Talk, Sep 21 2007
By M. Chang "Myrtha Chang" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Power of Inclusion: Unlock the Potential and Productivity of Your Workforce (Hardcover)
I have had the chance to work with the author, Mike Hyter. He is a master of communication, whether it is in an executive board room or in a lunch room to new employees. More importantly, this man really walks the talk. I've seen him stand by his principles in good times and bad. If you ever have the chance to hear him speak in person, do not miss it.
Otherwise, you are still in luck, you have this book. --Myrtha
