Product Description

The Princess and the Prophet launches Thomas Henry Quell's new sci-fi trilogy, Guardians of the Light. In the series opener, Quell serves up a fast moving action-adventure tale set in the 28th century, upon a world fifteen thousand light years from Earth. Commander Vernon Shaffer of the Starship Santa Maria battles sword-swinging religious fanatics under the double suns of the planet Abith in search of a priceless techno-access key known as the Crystal Cube. This white-hot story weaves together sci-fi and fantasy, psionic wizardry and deep space battles, with a cast of unforgettable characters.

To research his novel, Quell explored European dungeons, climbed castle walls, poured over astronomical texts and Hubble telescope images, and attended WICCA meetings. The result is a sci-fi thriller sizzling with action and great characters. If you're looking for humor, romance and high adventure, The Princess and the Prophet will take you there faster-than-light.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action-packed Sci-Fi Novel, Dec 3 2003
By
Duke (SF Bay Area) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Princess and the Prophet: Guardians of the Light, Volume One (Paperback)
The Princess and the Prophet is volume one of an in-progress trilogy called "Guardians of the Light." P&P is an action-packed sci-fi novel with humor, romance and a large cast of great characters. Thomas Henry Quell brings off a clever combination of classic space opera and fantasy by the device of psionic powers, not unlike Star Wars but with an actual witchery twist. The story is about Commander Vernon Shaffer's quest for a computer access module called the "crystal cube," which was lost by humans on a primitive world 15,000 light years from Earth. The Cube belongs to a high-tech alien culture and they are demanding the humans find and return it or face probably destruction. Problem is, the planet is inhabited by humanoids who practice psionic wizardry...you get the trajectory? Of course, Shaffer meets and falls in love with a local princess who is fighting a civil war against her wizard half-brother. The predictability of the general plot is surpassed by the twists and turns of the story's specifics, which is anything but predictable. This was a real page-turner. I can't wait for volume two!
