Product Description

From Amazon.com

The impressively muscular chest of Tom Jane is the focal point of The Punisher, a movie based on a Marvel Comics superhero. Frank Castle (Jane, Deep Blue Sea) retires from the FBI, which means--as any moviegoer expects--that his family is toast. Howard Saint (John Travolta, Face/Off), a shady Florida businessman whose son was killed in Castle's last mission, orders a hit not only on Castle's wife and child, but also on his parents and a whole bunch of aunts, uncles, cousins, and so forth. The killers shoot Castle himself in the chest, but he inexplicably survives and--as any moviegoer expects--sets out to even the score. Implausibly, given his sometimes curious and roundabout methods, he succeeds. Also featuring Will Patton (Armageddon) as an oily thug, Laura Harring (Mulholland Drive) as Saint's fleshpot wife, and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos (X-Men) as a waitress with bad taste in men. --Bret Fetzer

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone is Crazy, April 7 2005
This review is from: The Punisher (2004) (DVD)
I have no idea what everyone on here is talking about. I have seen this @ the movies and have bought the DVD. Since have watched it many a times with friends and family. It is exactly what the punisher is supposed to be, it has well done. Don't watch this movie if you wanna see a bit of fighting and romance, like spiderman or something like that. It has its graphic scenes and thats what The Punisher has been about from day one.

4.0 out of 5 stars A realistic take on an unrealistic hero, July 16 2004

This review is from: The Punisher (2004) (DVD)
I'll be the first to admit this was not the movie I was expecting to see. After all, any movie called The Punisher, well, one would expect to see PUNISHMENT. And while they do dish out a certain amount of revenge (sorry..."justice") it's not really what the movie is about. In my opinion, Frank Castle isn't even really "The Punisher" until the last few minutes of the movie (though the action is spread throughout).
Think of this movie as more of a prequel than an actual "PUNISHER" film...the story that tells why and how Frank changed from a loving husband/father into a barely human Terminator.
It's not the film I thought I was getting...but it was the right way to do the story, and a solid film to boot. If you liked X-Men, you should like this. And just like X-Men, the sequels should only get better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, July 13 2004
This review is from: The Punisher (2004) (DVD)
Having never read any of The Punisher comics books and going to see the movie on a whim, I was pleasantly surprised with the movie that I saw. I had no expectations about anything going into the movie and I had nothing to compare the film with. Being a fan of comic book movies, I felt that The Punisher was the most realistic one I've seen in a long time, because Frank Castle isn't a super-hero, he's just a regular guy and I think that's one of the things that drew me to the character and the story. I know a lot of people, mostly fans of the comics were expecting big gun fights and explosions, and were probably disappointed with how the action played out, but I welcomed that fact that The Punisher was more dramatic than action-packed, I really felt for the Frank Castle character. The movie does have its faults, every movie does, but the core of the story is Frank Castle dealing with the murder of his entire family...and it made me wonder...what would I do in a situation like that.
