From Booklist

After reviewing her somewhat precarious financial situation, Anna Wren comes to the conclusion that she needs a job. When she discovers that Edward de Raaf, the Earl of Swartingham, requires a new secretary, it seems like the perfect solution to her employment problem. Having already lost two secretaries because of his temper, Edward reluctantly agrees to give Anna a chance. Much to Anna's surprise, she finds she likes working for the often stubborn but unexpectedly kind Edward, and Edward soon realizes that Anna is not only an excellent secretary but also an extraordinarily intriguing woman. Hoyt's superb debut historical romance will dazzle readers with its brilliant blend of exquisitely nuanced characters, splendidly sensual love story, and elegant writing expertly laced with a dash of tart wit. Book Description

There comes a time in a womanrsquo;s life when she must do the unthinkable - and find employment. For the widowed Anna Wren, that means taking a job as female secretary for the Earl of Swartingham. Secretaries are always male - never female - as Anna well knows but the real downfall of her career is the realisation that she is falling in love with Edward de Raaf - the Earl. But when she realises that he is going to visit a brothel in London to take care of his 'manly' desires, Anna sees red - and decides to take advantage of the opportunity to also take care of her 'womanly' desires - with the Earl as her unknowing lover. But the Earl has another reason for going to London. He is formalising his betrothal and trying (with little success) to forget about a secretary that has no right being female. Unhandsome, he knows that no woman wants him. Except for the mysterious lady with whom he spent two unforgettable nights at Aphroditersquo;s Grotto, the most scandalous brothel in London. But when Annarsquo;s plan is revealed, a bit of blackmail is thrown into the mix, a proposal is rejected and even the Earl himself will be unprepared for the intrigues that ensnare them.

4.0 out of 5 stars The perfect sizzle for winter reading!, Dec 25 2006

Wow! I read a lot of different romantic authors (and a few erotic ones, truth be told) and this one covers all the bases. Engaging characters, a little intrigue, and a whole lot of vivid, boiling sex. Surprisingly, although the sex is VERY graphic, the characters overwhelmed their inevitable passions with a refreshing sense of honesty and humanity, emphasized by the charming folktale woven throughout. In a marketplace full of disposable romantic fiction, this one has earned its space on my shelf as a "keeper".

5.0 out of 5 stars What a surprise1, April 5 2010
This review is from: The Raven Prince (Mass Market Paperback)
OMG I loved this book! I was really surprised once I started reading it because I loved the characters right from the get go! This is the first book in the "Princess Trilogy". Elizabeth Hoyt is now one of my favorite authors. She is gifted story teller and a wonderful author. If you love a good love story you certainly won't be disappointed in this gem!

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard to pick a rating, May 12 2008
This review is from: The Raven Prince (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was very readable, and I couldn't put it down - finished in less than a day. But I think it's partly because it was a bit light. It's quite short, and there is little in the way of character development, emotional development, or development of the relationship between the hero and heroine. I didn't really find any significant "great love" story here. There were minor characters who could have been developed more, and the back stories of the hero and heroine could have been fleshed out more. Most especially, the relationship and emotion between the two main characters could really have used some more work. If you don't like really graphic sex in your historical romances, you might want to skip this one. The sex scenes are frequent, and are very explicit. If that's your cup of tea, then you'll enjoy this, but beware if it's not. All in all, the book was enjoyable and a good steamy read. Loved the hero especially; not your conventional handsome hero.
