This in my opinion was an album that was meant right from the get go to please. Like Robert Fripp, S. Wilson at time could careless if the fan will like it or not, it is not is goal, of course if we like it , it is a big plus.
But Fripp and wilson has so much in commun, not music wise but the way they run the business side of it.
but this album, I do believe that S. wilson wanted a certain hit out of it.
and who is better qualify than allan parson to put the chances on your side.
but a side of all this. this is an album that is easy to take, the flow is not cheesey but at the same time, not totaly commercial.
He has found the right balance.
I bought the cd first, but I am planning to purchase the blu ray version.
I don't know if you have try , but if you like a cd a lot, try to pay less, like me I pay five dollars on market place, this way if I really love it, I will dish out the 30 dollars or so for blu ray.Read more ›
This subject matter has been done before and this is on par with Alan Parson's Profect's "tales of Mystery and imagination" and is miles ahead of Lou Reed's "The Raven".
This will be spending a lot of time in my car or bedroom stereo but for my home system I am going with the 5.1 blu ray. After all he is the king of 5.1!
Were you like me? looking for some of that older incredible music, but were unable to find it? Most of the current music is crap- so you just keep listening to those awesome old albums that nothing these days can seem to replicate in terms of the complexity and intricate musicianship? This piece of music is what I have been searching for. Every track is awesome. The first one hooks you with its Jeff Beck'ish fusion bassline, then the rest of the album weaves its way through various instruments, textures, and intricate passages of beautiful music; sometimes heavy, sometimes delicate, reminiscent of many of the bands listed above. The musicianship is impeccable. The climax is the last track; simple. powerful. and elegantly deeply moving; the type of track you need to listen to again right after hearing it. I don't consider myself the best writer but hopefully I am explaining the significance of this album adequately.
So after about 50 complete plays of this disc, I give it my highest rating I possible can. Thank you Steven Wilson for producing such a sonic pleasure. Hopefully the next work is just as exceptional.
Expectations were high and are far exceded!! This is, IMO, his finest work as a solo artist to date.
If you're a Porcupine Tree fan, get this album!
