Bo Bice, American Idol darling and Alabama babe magnet, had to have known he was taking a risk in naming his debut full-length The Real Thing. Up until now, those who weren't fans of the show and were introduced to Bice's heart-on-his-sleeve brand of southern rock through either his fall 2005 guest spot on Carlos Santana's All That I Am or his chart-topping turn on the single "Inside Your Heaven," also from 2005, may have been tempted to write him off as reality-show riffraff. The Real Thing--thanks in no small part to producer Clive Davis as well as Bice-boosters Richie Sambora, Jon Bon Jovi, Chad Kroeger (Nickelback), and Ben Moody (Evanescence)--redeems the hirsute, hard-charging rocker. Bice steps lively through a cavalcade of soaring guitars and top-drawer hooks, and he doesn't skimp on the belting--hear it on the full-flame lament "Nothing Without You" and also "Remember Me," an insistent rant sunk chest-deep in sincerity. If Bice sounds less earthy here than he did on the show--onstage he recalled the singer from the '60s band the Grass Roots to eerie effect at times--few will be disappointed. This is modern music with a Southern-man twist made irresistible by a bare-it-all guy who means it. The real thing, in other words. -Tammy La Gorce --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

Who cares if he was on American Idol (like the other poster complained)? The guy can sing! This cd may be more pop rock (RCA needs a hit and radio play) but it is still Bo and his rich and soulful voice. The tunes may not be southern rock but they are catchy. Bo is a real musician and he's all heart and soul. I hope people can look past the fact that he was on a pop show and just give the guy a chance. If this cd does well, his next cd can have more rock and blues on it.
The dual disc version of this cd also has three of Bo's own songs which are great also.

The first time I listened to this CD I had high expectations. I knew Bo was a rocker with a solid voice, and now, with some very famous friends ie Richie Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi, I was expecting some magic. This CD delivers in every aspect. I loved every song on the first listen and that's very rare for an album, usually only 4 or 5 songs are standouts. I hope this CD hits huge because it deserves to be listened to by everyone.

I really liked Bo on AI and off it as well. I've heard some of the songs from the CD. I thought they were pretty good. Why shouldn't everyone from Idol get their own record contract? That's the name of the game isn't it and what they're there for?

Sure maybe not every person on American Idol deserves an album- I mean Carrie won even tho Bo was more tallented- But if anyone deserves an album its definatley Bo. He's already done compilations with Santana and Ritchie Sambora! I think his voice is awsome! GO BO!
