Product Description

Product Description

Jill Owens has the perfect life - successful children, lawyer husband, beautiful house. But she has no purpose, nothing to do. She is resigned to this safe and boring existence when she gets a chance to chuck it all for just a little while and run off to Ireland to be a replacement bridesmaid.

Once in Ireland, her old dreams and aspirations come back to her, and so does love. Jill rediscovers herself and ends up finding herself having do choose between her old safe life, or her new risky life and the possibility of heartbreak - or love and fame.

Authors note: The first edition of this book had a multitude of mistakes, but this version has been professionally proofread. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did dreaming it up.

HASH(0xa0424984) out of 5 stars Sooooo shallow - spoiler alert! May 6 2012

This is how this story goes: a forty-something wife of a lawyer gets - in her own words - bored with her life, despite having a couple of nice kids, a husband who provides her with a good life and a group of friends. So, what is a girl to do?? Instead of finding some meaningful occupation or even a job, she takes a bunch of classes, in secret from her husband. Then, an opportunity to go to Ireland. Yes! She hasn't traveled in a long time (why??). As soon as she gets to the airport, a guy picks her up, and end up spending a day together, nearly fall into bed. When she arrives at her destination, right away she meets another guy. This time, they do fall into bed together - why? Because her life is terrible, her husband doesn't understand her (heard that one before?), she basically without much of a thought drops her former life and jumps into another one. Right from the start, the (gorgeous, funny and rich, of course) Irish guy makes her feel like never before. Next, because at this stage of her life she 'just wants to sing', he hooks her up with a band who are the next hottest thing to U2 - and they ask her to join the band in a tour!!!
This is the story in the nutshell. The 'heroine' seems to have the depth of a raindrop, and the morals of a cat. The story is highly unbelievable, other than long descriptions of places in Ireland, doesn't give the reader much of a background or character development.
Good thing this book was free, would hate to have paid for it!!

While I really enjoyed the basic core of this story, this book really needs to be edited. I can get past one, two, or just a few errors in a book - it's almost to be expected - but the amount of errors I found in this book became very distracting while reading. The story is an old one- children moved out and gone, a husband obsessed with making money, spending no time at home, and treating his wife like a servant because he is providing all the money for her luxuries. Unexpected twist: she runs off to Ireland (without telling her hubby) to participate in a wedding because her friend broke her leg last minute and couldn't go. She's always wanted to go to Ireland, and she's sure her husband won't miss her...

In Ireland, she finds that she is not the used up old woman her husband makes her feel like. She is flirted with and finds a man that she could definitely fall in love with. She decides, after falling in love with Ireland, to stay longer than the wedding. And she's tempted to never leave... Especially when she finds herself falling in love, not just with a man, but with his family. Of course, the man has secrets of his own, and she still has to decide what she's going to do with her husband...

A story about finding yourself again and making a better life for yourself, no matter the opposition or the problems. In other words, a good book!

Abandoned this book partway through. While the author states that the book has been proofread, there are still quite a few errors. The main character is not likable.

After reading through the best and worst of the reviews, I came to the conclusion that books are just a matter of taste. I really enjoyed "The Replacement Bridesmaid". It all made sense to me and brought Ireland and her people to life. Before you make a decision as to whether this book is for you or not, don't just read one review. Browse through most of them, without ruining the story line completely and form you own opinion. I got this woman and why she decided to stay in Ireland. I applaud her bravery in making the decision to take her life back.
