Book Description

Dec 7 2003
Evil is still afoot in the land and the Guardians have yet to find the sixth member of the Seventh Circle. But an ancient artifact is missing and they are charged to find it.

The civil war in Nendar is growing worse and the Black Order is setting more of its plans in motion in the north. The Guardians must move through peril to accomplish their goals.

Aridhar and his friends have far to go before their duties as Guardians of the Soulstone are done. The darkness is coming soon, and yet more will be awakened. Omens in the weather portend a catastrophe on the horizon, and the Seventh Circle just might be the only thing that stands in its way.

3.0 out of 5 stars RoN Review Jun 2 2004
Format:Paperback
At the heart, this is basically a good story. One of the biggest problems in fantasy is a lack of originality. The author has brought in some fresh elements such as the new races of the Dreydan and Mehari. The magical system is also well done- I particularly like the idea of having to find all 6 people to complete the 7th circle. There were other creative elements as well. The idea of the rock snakes was a great way to compliment the Mehari race and provide transportation. I also thought the use of Lokanrel's blood to confuse and impassion the Nendar army an excellent plot device.

One of the author's strengths is writing about the evil characters; the fact that they have their own motivations besides some generalized 'world domination' ads credibility to the story. I found myself relating to Thaklar more than any of the other characters. It's easy to see how things spill out of control and there's little doubt that he will become a fearsome enemy in the next book. (There is another book, right? =) )

Unfortunately while the story itself was good, I think the writing style will be difficult for many readers to get used to. However, if this gets cleaned up and clearer, Todd Cheney will be someone to keep your eye on in the future.
