The Rocky Story? Hardly, more like Rocky IV with 3 added songs!,
By
This review is from: The Rocky Story: the Original Soundtrack Songs From the Rocky Movies (Soundtrack Anthology) (Audio CD)
The Rocky movies are one of the most memorable film series in American movie history, Sylvester Stallone had this character and story that audiences could relate to. And when it comes to movie soundtracks it's hard not to mention the Rocky series and some of the fantastic music it has had over the years. But as the series changed direction in the 1980's, so did the music, not that it's a problem because I love the music from the first four movies in the series. While the first two Rocky movies had more instrumental and orchestral music, in the 1980's the music featured in the movies moved to a more rock and pop sound as the soundtracks for III and IV suggested. To me the Rocky series has some truly memorable music and it is only normal that one would want to buy a CD collection featuring the best of the soundtracks; only this is not what you're looking for.The main problem with 'The Rocky Story: The Original Soundtrack From The Rocky Movies' is that 6 out of the 9 songs here are taken from the Rocky IV (1985) soundtrack. Granted, I love Rocky IV and its soundtrack provided some of the best moments for me but I think there should be more than 3 songs representing the 4 other Rocky movies that were released at this point. This collection should be therefore be considered inaccurate when it comes to representing the Rocky movies. I don't really mind that there is nothing from Rocky V here because to be honest that soundtrack wasn't quite as memorable as the others were, Rocky and rap music don't mix very well in my opinion. Also, ignoring all that Bill Conti did was not a smart move... When it all comes down to it, 'The Rocky Story' is not your best bet when it comes to a Rocky CD collection, instead I would recommend 'Rocky Balboa: The Best of Rocky' released in 2006, it doesn't have everything a fan might hope for but with 17 songs it does far better than this. 9 songs by the way, is not nearly enough to truly represent the best music from the Rocky movies. I would only recommend this to someone who really liked the music from Rocky IV and likes the other songs here. Sadly this doesn't deserve much more than a two, it's a pathetic attempt at being a 'best-of' Rocky. 2 stars

Just What I Wanted,

A long time ago, when I was actively involved in actually working-out, I purchased this CD; I made the right choice. This CD is great for all of the Rocky fans out there. It contains the songs that remind us of the struggles the boxer went through, and it also can inspire the listener to push themselves a little harder each day - in whatever aspect of life they need to push.I think all of the songs are recorded quite well, and I don't think any Rocky (and music) fan should be without this CD. If you buy it and don't like it, you can yell at me... www.therunninggirl.com That's where I'll be. See ya next review.

My Ring's Outside,
By Chris M. (Valley Stream, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Rocky Story: the Original Soundtrack Songs From the Rocky Movies (Soundtrack Anthology) (Audio CD)
I wouldn't exactly call this a complete compilation of all the best music from each Rocky movie, because it's almost completely from Rocky IV. For the most part the songs are good (I could do without "Living In America"), but it does make a good CD to work out to and is very motivating. In my opinion it's way too short, so I took the liberty of making my own mix which I feel much more satisfied with:1.) Bill Conti - Fanfare For Rocky (I) Starts off strong, slows down and gets depressing, picks up the pace again stronger, then ends the same way the series did.
