Let me tell you something about this book. The reason there are not more black and white comics is because there are not that many artists who can do it well. Illustrator Andy Hirsch is one of those artists who ROCK in black and white. His confident and crisp use of total shadow negative space is eye-popping. And if you know exactly how hard it is to do what he does, you will be blown away. If you run out and buy ISSUE #4 (the one with patchwork girl on the cover), you will not know whether to read it or frame it. Hirsch is on a short list of artists doing comics that I would recommend to people who want to learn how to provoke people with only the white of the paper and darkness of a pen.
Tommy Kovac's story funny, intriguing and shows a genuine love for world created by Frank L. Baum. If you have bought Marvel's Wizard of Oz comics series, then you should pick up this compendium of issues #1-5.
One last thing: At this point, there is one other person who has reviewed this book. Although she apparently liked the book enough to collect each copy, she gave this book ONE STAR because the series was canceled because comic book stores did not order enough copies for the last issue to pay for publishing. SLG allowed readers to buy a digital version of the last issue. She could have bought the last issue digitally to read and she could have bought collection of all 5 issues for a steal at Amazon's price. I think it not especially honest to give one star to a book she obviously liked. That's like trashing the TV show Firefly because it got canceled half-way through the first season. She's complaining about the perils of buying into stories from smaller publishers? Well, thanks a heck of a lot Evzenie. You're no help improving things.

i bought the single issues, they were great and i liked the story.
4 out of 5 issues were released and then the series was canceled.
you support a small publishers and buy their stuff? here is my lesson!
now the publisher SLG tries to get my money again. why should i pay to read only the last issue?
