Angeles Arrien, author, cultural anthropologist, and eloquent storyteller, describes the three principles that should inform the second half of life: generativity, intimacy and creativity. One way to follow these principles is to perform daily the three cross-cultural tasks referred to by Arrien as "the Blessing Way"--say a prayer or set a sacred intention, express gratitude and perform at least one life-affirming action. Angeles Arrien opens many doors to the mysteries of who we are as Uprights. Our tribe is global. We are a family revealed to us in the ancient symbols, myth and stories she so richly weaves. You can all but hear the drums beating in time with the words, feel the warmth of the Council Fires burning, sense the Elders drawing near. This series of tapes initiated me in a time when I was making a great crossing in my life. It is the ultimate wisdom teaching one hopes to have waiting when one steps over into the abyss.

Didn't find that book in french so I have ordered it in english.A beautiful *Ouvrage* answering my many questions and helping me to be more in the present, the actual moment of my life, helping me recognise each gate i'm in front of/ that I wish to enter/ or fighting to avoid....Very inspiring and securising to recognise what is in front of me. This book, has given me the chance to laugh a little bit more about myself in a way that i rarely did. Accepting each gate, as it is presenting itself to me and knowing what to expect from it is a marvelous tool/ guide/ friend for my evolution and is securising me(like a guide). So, I recommend it, even for the youngest to be initiated too its contents by a loving parent /or friend. Wish I could have this book in my hands before..let say...when i was young(teenager) Lot of things would have been seen and lived very differently. Hope you enjoy it as much as i did and learn a little bit more about what each gate is made of and how it affects you. Martine Prévost@damebleue

I could not attend a lecture given by the author at a local university. Out of curiosity I ordered 1 copy of the book and I was not disappointed. I have been battling cancer for 9 years and still bragging about being alive. The author was able to ,more than adequately, verbalize the many life,spiritual paths that I have had to walk and why. I am at the Eight Gate now GOLD. The soles of my heart and spirit are worn but still resilient. The Purpose of all life is now more clear to me than ever. I am Christian and have practice my faith but all the religious education I received pales in comparison to the knowledge I acquired through reading this bookI am finally calm. I purchased 5 more copies which I gave , as a Christmas gift,to my 2 middle aged daughters and 3 senior girlfriends . It all makes sense to me now. Much to think about and talk about in the New Year. 'The Second Half of Life : Opening the Eight Gates of Wisdom ' is a great and positive way to start the first year of the 2nd decade of the Millinium. I GET IT
