Product Description

In the jungles of Peru, the fight for survival heightened his senses. Now, Detective James Ellison is a Sentinel in the fight for justice. Seeing before others see, sensing what others can't....an ever vigilant watchman in the war against crime.

After spending years in the Peruvian jungle during his tour in Army Special Forces, Cascade PD Detective James Ellison developed hyperactive senses, which came back to him five years after his return to the US. He can see people in darkened windows at night from two hundred yards, hear the music playing on the radio of the car he's chasing after he's lost sight of it, and can distinguish between wood and plastic after both have been in a three thousand degree fire. Blair Sandburg, a local anthropology student, tells Ellison that he is a "Sentinel," who in ancient tribes would protect the village and seek out game using such hyperactive senses. Sandburg becomes Ellison's back-watcher and teacher of how to use his new powers as Ellison brings a whole new edge to the war on crime in Cascade, Washington.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where oh where are seasons 2, 3, and 3? Mar 2 2013
By Iz
Format:DVD
I've been waiting for way too long for the whole of 'The Sentinel' to come out on DVD, and they've only released the first season! That's a great blessing, because the show is unique, a cop-buddy-action-myth-legend-paranormal combination that works, as unlikely as it sounds. And it's not humor, but a serious show. The idea is that Detective Jim Ellison, the Sentinel, has all five senses enhanced way past everyone else's; his buddy, Blair Sandburg, a young anthropologist on the cusp of getting his Ph.D., says he's 'beyond the curve' on all of them. But staying sane when your senses are that extreme requires help and Blair Sandburg is the single person on earth who can give it. Their temperaments are completely opposite: Jim is ex-military, bad-tempered and officious, while Blair has been raised by a flower-power hippie who has no idea who Blair's father is. The show is steeped in South American mythology, with both of the guys having spirit animals to lend meaning to certain episodes in their lives; Jim's predicament is partly due to his time as a Ranger in Peru, where an indigene called Incacha was Jim's first guide, and he is certain he doesn't want any other guide, no matter what, no matter who. But Jim and Blair are both strong, both caring and both heroes. Oh, I want the whole series! Please, please don't stop with season 1, and bring out the others too. The number of prospective purchasers in the TS fandom is enormous, and we'll all buy all of them, probably twice or three times over! We're notorious for forcing UPS to bring out a very short season 4 after killing off Blair at the end of season 3 by a non-stop write-in campaign, and we're as rabid as we ever were. That's how good the show is, and how hooked you get on it. And how likely we are to buy all the DVDs again and again!

4.0 out of 5 stars UPN's First Hit Drama Series Mar 22 2006
By Movie Mania - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
The product discription describes this series fairly well. But what it doesn't tell you is that this is an excellent series. Every episode had you on the edge of your seat. This was Richard Burgi's first starring role. The first season was definitely the best.

If you like to collect TV shows that were ahead of its time and therefore, didn't last, this is one to add to your collection.

If you like edgy detective shows, this is one to add to your collection.

If you like breakout performances, this is one to add to your collection.

I will definitely add this to my collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite show comes to DVD at last! April 3 2006
By Princess Potter - Published on Amazon.com

I'm thrilled to see that Paramount has finally released my all time favorite show to DVD! This show had a great premise and wonderful, interesting characters with a great rapport. Richard Burgi and Garett Maggart were excellent and made a potentially unbelievable partnership completely engaging. Now everyone can finally see what all the Sentinel fans were so passionate about! Yay! Jim and Blair are coming home!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Start April 26 2006
By Lady Shelley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
The Sentinel was one of those fun shows from the late 1990's; fun cop drama with lots of humor. There was some cheesy-ness, but over all it was a good series.

As for the DVD's pictures and sound is superb. Honestly, the picture quality is better than when the series ran on UPN, and the sound, while only being 2 channel is still wide open and fills the room nicely.

However, there are no special features here and no close captioning. Fans know there are blooper reels in existance and I hope for future seasons we see some extras. Commentaries with Richard Burgi, Garett Maggert, and Bruce A Young would be nice as well
