5.0 out of 5 stars Seeing my light!, Jun 10 2010

I attended the launch of Debbie's newest book in New York City & marvelled at the synergy that existed between the three authours. That synergy, to my amazement, is also palpable while reading the book. There have been some extraordinary threesome's in history/herstory, but this particular threesome offer the world a perspective on shadow work that is literally divine. It is time to go within & discover your shadow - ok it's a least my time - if you're looking for a powerful guide while doing this work, I would highly recommend this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars In all honesty, I could not see the point to this., Aug 4 2009
By Thresa K. Niimi - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Shadow Effect: Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True Self, an Interactive Movie Experience (DVD)
I purchase spiritual/self help videos/audio recordings to learn new and helpful information so that I can pass it on to others. I just could not get the point of this video, or perhaps I am well past the information that this video was trying to convey. I asked one of my friends to watch it and she came away with the same bewilderment as myself. It starts out fairly well as it describes what a shadow is. It is the part of us that we try to hide and are ashamed of. It shows how people put on a mask to hide their shadow behavior instead of confronting it and that it could potentially explode and cause very bad behavior. It shows some famous celebrities like Michael Jackson, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Paris Hilton, and a few others that wear masks and have had what 'we judge' to be bad behavior. So far, any advice as to what a person could do to constructively change this behavior? This video did not have a good flow. It flashes several statistics of the bad stuff that happens with the shadow such as domestic abuse, murders, etc. Negative info, no help there. How do we make this a learning process and turn it into positive? It shows a happy smiling couple and then all of sudden the man smacks the woman accross the face. (I personally went through 5 years of severe domestic abuse in my younger days.) Any suggestions of how to deal with the shadow effect? I kept expecting some constructive helpful advice of how to deal with the shadow effect of oneself or of others, but just did not see any. Again, I am expecting to use this as a learning/teaching video. Finally, it shows some people that tell of their own shadow feelings. The holocaust survivor lived through the shadow effect of others and is a very beautiful person. Her story is very moving. I failed to see that she had any shadow about her nor any social masks. She did explain how she dealt with the shadow effect that was forced on her and that was very good, but other than that, the video was of very little practical help. There were some very good comments in the movie that were supplied by many great spiritual speakers such as Deepak Chopra and Marianne Williamson and others. The very end of the video was also confusing. One example is "Father abandoned him when he was a little boy" + "Barack Obama" = "President of the United States" Was being abandoned by his father an example of his shadow? I just did not get it. I suggest getting material from Louise Hay, Katie Byron, Marianne Williamson, Deepak Chopra, Miguel Ruiz, Wayne Dyer, Neale Donald Walsch, Eckert Tolle, Gary Renard, Esther and Jerry Hicks and skip this one. If you want to stick to DVD format, Louise Hay has "You Can Heal Your Life". It would much more helpful. Love and accept (forgive) yourself in every way and you will naturally love and forgive others. If you can do that, then your shadow effect will be non-existent. I definitely did not get that message from The Shadow Effect Video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, entertaining, and potentially life-altering film, Aug 18 2009
By Thomas McLaughlin - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Shadow Effect: Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True Self, an Interactive Movie Experience (DVD)
In The Shadow Effect: Special Interactive Edition, Debbie Ford has created a profound, heartfelt, and thought-provoking movie. Through compelling stories and interviews with an impressive cast of leaders in the field of human transformation, the film educates us about an essential element of our humanity - the Shadow. This stirring film offers us practical, accessible, and even fun exercises to access and work with its tremendous power in order to create the life of our dreams. Eloquent, entertaining, challenging, and insightful, The Shadow Effect: Special Interactive Edition invites us to explore all that we are, the shadow as well as the light, and to embrace and love the magical, complex, powerful, and ultimately beautiful creatures that we are. As a teacher and writer, and as a man, I consider this film and the subject it explores to be among the most important I've encountered. A must-see film for anyone committed to becoming the highest expression of themselves. ~ Tom McLaughlin, Jr., MA
