Great album!, Dec 21 2003

This is a must-have in your CD collection.....I remember being in high school when it came out (specifically, I was on spring break on a cruise ship to Mexico, and that's ALL I heard at the on-ship dance club) and it was GREAT! We all loved it as teenagers and even to this day, the music is timeless.....I still appreciate it at 26 as much as I did when I was 16 - that's a good "sign". Buy it!

Ace of Base - The Sign, Dec 10 2003
This review is from: The Sign (Audio CD)
Absorbing, exciting and high-tech array of dance songs that can enhance the fun of any party! This is the debut album for the hit pop group and it suceeds greatly. This is a compilation of great tunes. "All that she Wants," one of my personal favourites, has a fantastic beat and the lyrics are very nicely thought out and constructed. The remix of this song which is the final track is very cool. I could listen to this CD all the way through for hours. It's an amazing disc. ACE OF BASE is a true classic band and I'm sure it will be loved almost or just about as much as ABBA in time...hehe.

Incredible debut and Swedish pop classic, Sep 29 2003
This review is from: The Sign (Audio CD)
This debut effort from Ace of Base is one of the greatest pop records ever created. Spawning the massive radio hits "The Sign", "All That She Wants", and "Don't Turn Around", it continued the Swedish dance/pop mastery that made Abba such a phenomenon years before. That's not to say that they are Abba clones, because even though there are some similarities, Ace of Base has pioneered their own distinctive sound and is an incredible band in their own right.
Apart from the hits, there isn't a weak song on "The Sign". Other standouts would have to include the dark "Happy Nation" (the title track on the European release), "Young and Proud", "Dancer in a Daydream", and the French "Voulez-Vous Danser". All the tracks are propelled by an excellent rhythm section, making them fun, danceable, and highly catchy, with Linn and Jenny's vocals really completing the ensemble.
Looking back years later, it's hard to recall just how popular this album was. It became so popular so fast (with very good reason), that it almost became "uncool" and "trendy" to like them....but the great music doesn't stop here. Their follow up albums are every bit as fun and aggressive as "The Sign", and have cemented Ace of Base as one of the best dance/pop outfits ever.
