From the Back Cover

How can we free ourselves from the past and the future? It is all very simple! With a lucid, all-encompassing Attention, we will watch every reaction of the mind, without pursuing any purpose or goal. Everything we encounter in such manner disappears and, in the void which appears spontaneously, an unlimited energy is available at our fingertips and we are able to understand the absolute Reality through a direct experience.

In this state, we acquire a great sensitivity and everything that life brings forth in its natural flow is being regarded and appreciated with love and kindness.

Man is truly wise only when, detached from his selfish “self”, is united with Infinity through non-action and an aware passiveness of the mind.

This mysterious encounter is accompanied by simplicity. Once the past has disappeared, we are integrated in the now and, with a clear and lucid mind, we watch everything that comes as constant freshness from one moment to the other.

By Alan Jacobs - Published on
Format: Paperback
This wise, profound, and easily readable book gives us the master key to Self Realisation as taught by all the great enlightened Sages of the past. The author masterfully explains that we can reach the inner divine nature through cultivating the silence of the mind with deep attention and clear awareness. THe book is obviously written from his own experience with great clarity accessible to the modern man and woman. I strongly recommend this fine book.

HASH(0x9d88e720) out of 5 stars Unsurpassable Oct. 24 2011
By Prasad - Published on
Format: Paperback
I have read over 1000 books on the subject of the human mind and enlightenment. This book will stand out as one of the best.

May I share with you what Ilie first experienced in his own words " I was 55 years old. One morning, waking up from my sleep, I noticed that, psychologically, I was functioning differently from the night before. The mind had lost its usual turmoil. In a state of serenity I had never felt before, I was functioning in perfect communion with my whole somatic structure.

My surprise was so great that it prevented me from understanding the mysterious phenomenon as I didn't manage to put it into words. I had read, of course, lots of descriptions of Enlightenment, Liberation, but there is a great difference between mere intellectual knowledge and directly experiencing the phenomenon.

Only after a couple of hours I realized what had happened to me, without pursuing this "something" as an ideal to accomplish. I was, to use a simile, in the situation of a man blind from birth, who had just gained his sight after undergoing surgery. Everything around me was as new. I had an overall perspective on things. A silent mind allows the senses to perceive things as they are.

The mind in its totality had become, through silence, an immense mirror in which the outside world was reflected. And the world I was perceiving directly through my senses revealed its own reality to me. My fellow beings, close friends or complete strangers, were being regarded indiscriminately, with a feeling of love I had never felt before.

If any reaction of the mind surfaced, it disappeared immediately in contact with the sparkle of impersonal Attention. A state of quiet and all-encompassing joy characterized me in all circumstances, whether pleasant or painful. My behaviour was that of a simple witness, perfectly aware of what was happening around me, without affecting my all-encompassing state of peace.

The State of Sublime is, of course, difficult to describe, but not impossible to experience by someone who authentically practices awareness. In order to communicate it, a simple and direct language is used, which is not filtered through reason, because the "ego" with its subjective perception is no longer ......"

Thank you dear reader and I namaste you,

I have read many books on the subject of consciousness, self-realization, non-duality, awakening, Truth, etc. since the late 1960's. The Silence of the Mind, is one of those very rare books that sometimes only comes once in a lifetime....It is a book that actually transports the reader into the deepest and most profound aspects of their own inner essence, the realization of the Self. The words are easy to read, and are infused with such a strong energy, that I do believe, one could become transformed by simply holding the book, without reading a word! I urge you to explore this wondrous work, a work that mysteriously, yet eloquently, has the power to open the reader to their own essential nature, the beautiful Silence within. The gift of this book is so profound that it is indescribable. This truly is an essential read for any seeker of Truth. Rosemary Cochran, Pismo Beach, California

Who is Ilie Cioara? How do you silence your mind when it's spinning out of control in a hundred directions at once?

While scanning stores for books on Buddhism, Zen, and other teachings that will allow my life to evolve into one of enlightenment, or as Star Gate fans call "Ascension", I came across an interesting author, poet, Romanian Mystic, name Ilie Cioara.

Ilie Cioara was born in Romania in 1916 and died in 2004, an enlightened soul. His life was an incredible journey of a life-long search to reach a higher level of being; to live his life in an all-consuming spiritual world that freed him from society's constant ambush that brought fear, stress, guilt, shame, sensory overload, and pain. A world devoid of love, compassion for his fellow man, a world that often brought on emptiness and despair for himself and those around him. Not a lot can be found online about his life, at least not that I have been able to find yet. There are a few good websites dedicated to his writings and books, and there are some beautiful You Tube videos that combine photography and music that will give readers a feel of what his books try to convey. This mystic started out Christian. As his quest for enlightenment moves forward through the years it evolves into more of a zen/buddhist-like belief that merged Christianity and Eastern Philosophy together into one awesome belief system.

At this time, four books have been recently translated and published by O Books out of the U.K. My first choice was to purchase "Silence of the Mind", a short 135 page trade paperback that may be short on pages, but is full of incredible wisdom and advice for any initiate into the world of learning the art of mindfulness and self-awareness. Within a few pages Ilie had knocked my socks off, had my full attention, and had me reading the entire book in one sitting. Topics discussed run through the whole gamut of the self-inflicting horrors of life we constantly toil and struggle through. Fear, joy, love, aloneness, happiness, aging, the destructive "ego", avoidance, emptiness, pain, and many other arenas that our minds conjure up leaving us confused and out of control.

Ilie approaches these common life struggles in small chapters that begin as a poem. Following the poem he breaks the lines down into a page or two of description that will open your mind to realizing how we easily damage ourselves. Ilie helps us learn to expand our minds and hearts into freeing ourselves from these mind aching issues that compress us into a mental prison.

Learning about the "ego", beginning a life of dedication to daily meditation, learning to breathe and to quiet our minds, to let go and focus on what is truly important for our lives and others, is just the tip of the iceberg for what Ilie Cioara wanted to teach us. He tells us to be still, to really listen, to stop living in the past and trying to control the future, by staying in the now. He allows us to seek an existence of calmness and serenity, one of beauty, and to slowly morph our lives into that of a spiritual and passionate existence devoid of expectations; one that is full of acceptance, and one free from close-minded people and materialistic things in life that we do not need in order to be truly happy.

This book is a five star read, should not be missed by anyone seeking truth, love, and inner peace. I have just ordered the remaining three books and can't wait to experience more of Cioara's incredible wisdom.

If your reading this review, you've definately been drawn to and must be prepared to go all The Way with your present experience. This isn't just an excellent read but as the author says, a meditation in itself. You'll enjoy how the poems resonate to the core of your Being differently each time you read one. This meditative book exposes the ego with the potential of collapsing it, revealing the I that has been patiently waiting all along. Welcome home and enjoy!
