Book Description

Mar 8 2011 Sisters Club
The forecast calls for a first crush after Stevie makes a wish for something new and daring in this authentic, funny Sisters Club adventure.

As the middle sister in a family with three girls, Stevie Reel doesn’t know much about boys, and that’s always been just fine with her. But lately, things have been changing: kids at school are starting to pair up, and Owen, the new boy in her Earth Science class, seems to have his sights set on Stevie. The trouble is, Stevie doesn’t want a boyfriend- she’s not even sure she’s ready to have a boy friend. And her sisters, who know exactly where they stand on the issue of boys, are no help: drama queen Alex is busy trying to orchestrate a perfect, Romeo-and-Juliet-style first kiss from her heartthrob, Scott Towel (er, Howell), while Joey can’t understand why anyone would like a boy better than a frog anyway. If only figuring out boys were as easy as predicting the weather!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book amazing series! April 10 2012
By Steven R. McEvoy HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
This was the 6th book I have read by Megan McDonald in less than two weeks. Each was an excellent read. The Sisters Club books are longer than either the Judy Moody or Stink Moody books. In fact there is a clear progression in length and difficulty of books from Stink, to Judy to Sisters. These stories revolve around a family with three daughters; I grew up the oldest of three boys and now have three children myself. I can only hope that as my children age, and we read these books together, they can learn from the Reel sisters.

This is a fun story in a great series. Two of the girls are starting to get older and with that comes the question of boys, relationships and first kisses. The play being put on in school this year is Romeo and Juliette, and Alex wants to play Juliette to Scott Howell's Romeo. But she does not get her wish. Then the play gets moved to the Raven, the town's theater and second home of the Reel girls. Stevie has a new fascination with weather and specifically clouds, and ends up working on a cloud project for science class with Owen, aka 'Wire Rims', as in his glasses. Joey is still fascinated with frogs and even has a hidden pet frog named Sir Croaks-a-lot.

This is a fun tale well worth reading. Give a Megan McDonald book a try; you will not be disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars cute tween read July 18 2011
By The Flashlight Reader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
If I had to limit my review to one word, I would say this book is "cute." It didn't do a whole lot for me, but it was still an enjoyable read. Obviously, I am way out of the intended target group to find much in common with this book, but I can see why my students held it hostage for so long. I haven't been able to read it until now because it was constantly going missing off the book shelf.

Basically, you have three very chumming sisters who wish for something "amazing" to happen on a stormy night. Since the ages vary, the "amazing" thing also varies for each sister. I loved how the youngest sister, Joey, was disgusted by boys. Her wish was to see a rare blue tree frog. Stevie, the middle sister doesn't have a clear idea of what she wants, so she just wants something new and exciting. She doesn't count on that including a new boy that has a crush on her. Alex, the oldest, is already interested in boys and wants to get her first kiss. You can guess what her wish is.

It was pretty straight forward and predictable. I liked the little sketches added in by Joey. They were a funny addition. I also liked the fortune telling sock monkey. Those conversations were pretty funny-- perfect for a tween's sense of humor.

This book fits in well with a 10-12 year old girl's reading. I know for a fact that this particular age group loves this book. I've witnessed that first hand. It was a good, clean book. Two simple (and hilarious) kiss scenes are about as "trashy" as you'll find.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Mar 13 2012
By Elizabeth A Moress - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The Sisters Club book 3 is all about boys. Its a bit weird and not my favorite in the series. its all about Stevie meeting a boy named Owen and having different thoughts about him throughout the book. Alex on the otherhamd is trying out to be Juliet in Romeo and Juliet (her acting goal) she really wants Scott Towel Howell to be Romeo so they can have their amazing kiss or whatnot. I like Joey in this book have no idea whats gotten into her 2 sisters. This book in my opinion is the worst in the seriesso far but, I really love the way the author writes and I still think it`s totally worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Family Life Nov 29 2011
By Heidi Grange - Published on Amazon.com

I quite enjoyed this series. As the author of the Judy Moody and Stink books, Megan McDonald has already shown her grasp of elementary age children and how they think and act. This third book in the Sisters Club series shows that she grasps equally well the challenges of middle school and the changes that make this time of life so confusing.

The format that includes regular chapters (Stevie's point of view), scripts (Alex's point of view), and notes from Joey's notebook (Joey is the youngest of the three sisters). This design allows the reader to see how differently each of the three sisters see the world around them and their various experiences. Having several sisters myself I found I could easily relate to Stevie and her sisters and the ups and downs of their relationships. It also brought back memories of my own middle school experiences, which I would not want to relive for anything (shudder, shudder).

Overall, this series provides some light reading for girls who are ready to move beyond the Judy Moody and Junie B. series. The first book in the series is The Sisters Club. Book two is called The Sisters Club: Rule of Three.
