Product Description

The body language of the characters conveys a huge emotional range. Whether readers are fans of this homey pair or new to the dynamic duo's doings, they will delight in the childlike repartee and comfortable friendship.
—School Library Journal

Bear's comic sad-sack histrionics, couched in his formal phraseology, and the contrast with Mouse's perky attempts at assistance deliver bear-sized portions of humor. Kids won't have to be sniffly themselves to appreciate the sickroom drama, but it could also lighten the burden of those sentenced to whining and high Kleenex use.
—Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

A bear has a cold. He believes he is about to die. Mouse thinks otherwise. Bear believes Mouse does not appreciate the gravity of the situation. Mouse thinks the Bear will be just fine and tries to cheer him up in different ways. Bear is grumpy...

This is part of a series by Bonny Becker. It is a perfect book for the 2 - 5 age range. Bonny Becker has a good "sense of humor" . The illustrations are great.

"That wasn't very good." Feb. 14 2013
By Denise Marie Fezza - Published on

I bought this because my four year old son and I love A Visitor for Bear. I agree with the other reviewer that said diminishing returns with the sequels and another reviewer that it didn't really flow. I wasn't keen on explaining what a last will is to my four year old - he knows all about death, we lost a pet recently and a good friend's grandmother and I wasn't expecting to dive back into the topic because the discussion lasts for days. When we finally finished the book, my son announced, "That wasn't very good."

Not age appropriate for young children May 13 2013

I loved "A Visitor for Bear" and was very disappointed with this book. Bear is melodramatic and sick, and keeps talking about how he thinks he is dying. I am scratching my head wondering what the authors were thinking. Unless you want to explain to your child what a "will" is, or why Bear is saying goodbye to Mouse when he's not going anywhere, then I would avoid this one.

Maintains the charm and quality of the first, may even be better Nov. 13 2012

I very much liked "A Visitor for Bear" and the other books in this series. Bear and mouse are both delightful and lovable characters, illustrated in a warm welcoming style that displays a broad range of emotions with grace and humor.

This book appeals to children without pandering and is humorous for both children and adults. I do not think that I will mind reading it again and again. It is that rare that a series is able to maintain to the same high level that was found with first, especially when such heights were reached with the first volume. Becker has, however, managed to keep this series fresh and lively. This particular book has the added quality that the subject matter makes it a wonderful read for a child who is not feeling well.

Parents an children will likely enjoy reading this book again and again.

These Bear and Mouse books are my children's favorites, they're entertaining (even for the adults!) and a very good buy from Amazon. Definitely recommend!

Sweet story of friendship. Jan. 31 2012
By Heidi Grange - Published on
Format: Hardcover
A fun addition to the Bear and Mouse series perfect for sharing. The text works well as a read-a-loud providing for lots of expression on the part of the reader. In fact the more expression used the funner the read-a-loud experience will be. Both characters are delightful in their own way, grumpy Bear and cheerful Mouse. A delightful homage to the value of friendship even when things get hard. The illustrations add the perfect touch of humor through body language and facial expressions. Highly recommended for both group and individual sharing. The other books in this series are delightful as well.
