Third time's the charm?

Successful financier Carrie St. John has endured all the romantic disasters she thinks she can in a lifetime. That is, until her fiancé jilts her the weekend of her bridal shower. Carrie can't show up unaccompanied again and admit to her family she's a failure. When Carrie meets Mike Davis at an historic country inn, the recently ditched hottie offers to help fill the bill. But, at what price?

Mike Davis was finally going to prove his old high school buddies wrong. Voted "most likely to remain a bachelor" in his prestigious prep school's class, he was looking forward to ushering in his fiancée at his upcoming reunion. Suddenly empty-handed, he's got a new ploy in mind involving the ultra sexy and accomplished Carrie. But Mike doesn't bank on giving up his heart in the bargain. Neither does Carrie, who is soon to learn there are things that even money can't buy...

Carrie didn't know if the music was still playing, or if it was merely the pulse of her heart that was lending rhythm to her feet. All she knew was that she felt protected, sheltered, and loved. Wholly and unconditionally drawn straight into Mike's warmth. They couldn't have been more connected had they been in bed together. Or maybe they were, and she was dreaming.

Mike reached up and stroked her hair, causing her to melt into him another inch. He'd never peel her off now. Carrie couldn't even say where Mike ended and she began. The only thing she knew for certain was that she never wanted this feeling to stop.

A short contemporary romance with mild steam, approximately 50,000 words.

4.0 out of 5 stars It definitely was fate...... Feb. 16 2012

This was such a cute romance story, especially for free. It was very romantic, especially for me who believes in love at first sight! :) Story begins with Carrie, being dumped by her fiance at a romantic weekend getaway. Carrie was so disappointed and upset, she throws the engagement ring he gave her out into the pool. Out of the pool emerges the "swim God", AKA Mike Davis. He was diving underneath the pool searching for the engagement ring he had given Alexia which she tossed into the pool. Mike happens to find Carrie's ring and attempts to give it back to her. She was embarrased by the whole situation and tried to run away from him, especially since she was completely drooling over this man when she should have been mourning her breakup. Mike thought Carrie was beautiful, so feminine, so curvy, so sexy, but something else was completely drawing him to her.

Needless to say, their "depressed" status brings them together as friends and they both strike a deal: he goes to her bridal shower pretending to be her fiance and she goes to his 20 year highschool reunion as his fiance.

I've read many stories with similar plots, yet this book was enjoyable. There are small editing issues, but overall, story was very cute, funny, romantic and secondary characters were great! Nice little read for free!

What is the big deal people really? Take the book for what it is HELLO FICTION. These were to misfits in the dating/engagement/marriage arena. All the comedy of errors that happen & had happened were funny at times & sad when you thought about it at others. You are not going to tell me you don't know at least one person maybe yourself that in marriage mode & if someone asked you could almost see them jump before they finished asking, not even know who was asking. Just to belong & be loved. This book is sweet & funny. When you look at it for the read & not to be a critic.

I loved this sweet story about two people that meet at exactly the right time in their lives. I did feel that the ending was maybe a little bit rushed but the epilogue wrapped the story up nicely.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet love story June 6 2013

I enjoyed this book, primarily because I really liked both Carrie and Mike. I enjoyed the fact that even though they were coming out of bad situations, they still were willing to help each other by attending some sort of function with the other so everyone wouldn't know about the breakup of their previous relationships. Mike agrees to meet members of her family and Carrie agrees to attend a high school reunion with him.

As they are thrown together planning and attending the various functions they start to realize that maybe the two of them have a good thing going. I would have to agree with the reviewer who said losing one fiance and finding another moved too fast but I still enjoyed the story.

I am always puzzled when a reviewer criticizes a romance novel because it was "predictable". A romance novel pretty much has to be predictable. IT'S A LOVE STORY. You can predict that they will fall in love, because if they don't, what's the point?

This is my first book by Ginny Baird but it won't be the last.
