Product Description

An ancient parable speaks of a divine stream that poured forth from the earth itself. It bubbled up along the road of life and many, tired and footsore, gathered to refresh themselves there. Over time, altars and walls were erected to protect the source of the stream, and a special caste of men named themselves the streams guardians; under their guidance, only a precious few could access the water. Wars were fought over when and how people could drink. Eventually, so many were turned away that the stream was forgotten, but when all the chanting and ceremonies cease, there are still those convinced they can hear, somewhere deep within the edifice, the sound of water coursing over rock.

Based on actual events, N. M. Freeman's the story of Q. is about four people divided by time and space, who still hear the water fl owing in the depths of their hearts. Meet Mateo, Farah, Rose, and Roger: strangers unknowingly tied together by a mysterious document known as Q. This ancient document tears apart their preconceived notions about God, religion, and themselves.

The Q document threatens existing notions about the meaning of life. There are those who would keep its contents hidden in an effort to hinder the destruction of the modern church. There are also those who would share the document with all mankind in order to return human spiritual awareness to its purest form, like the forgotten stream of the parable. Without doubt, the Q document could tear humanity apart-but it could also lift the human race to a new level of divine consciousness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary, April 19 2011
This book was a revelation for me. Although it is a work of fiction it is meticulously researched and is about a massively important topic that is usually the preserve of religious scholars such as Kuhn, Harpur and Armstrong. Their work is critical in a modern age where more people are searching for answers yet is often couched in a dry and academic style that becomes laborious for a non-scholar. The glory of this book lies in its accessibility, as Freeman's elegant prose and compassionate approach exposes the contradictions, controversies and obfuscations allowing the truth to shine through via the dramas unfolding around her four main characters
Roger the academic, who lectures to a class representing a cross section of those with an interest in religion from the hardened sceptics to those not wanting to hear anything that contradicts their narrow interpretation of faith. The interactions of the various protagonists provide a microcosm of the conflicts currently affecting the world.
Rose, his mother, who fears for his soul yet becomes conflicted as the undeniable truth of his arguments clash with her beliefs.
Farah, undergoing a life threatening crisis due to the strictures of her faith which deny her the truth she can feel in her heart. Can she be led to the Light?
Mateo, who is there at the beginning when an ancient wisdom is finally written down to become the seed for the 3 main monotheistic religions.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in religion or spirituality. Anyone who knows there is a Truth out there that seems just out of reach

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, life-affirming, eye-opening. (In a word, brilliant.), April 17 2011
The Story of Q is so beautifully, lyrically, and powerfully written, and with such purity. The characters, Mateo, Farah, Rose, and Roger emerge from the pages as versions of ourselves, or those we know and love. From the opening page, I cared about their journeys, and yearned for them to find the answers for which I myself have long searched. The beauty of this book is that it's about all humankind, and although reading this book forced me to face hard truths (truths I secretly suspected), ultimately it confirmed and reminded me about the goodness of being. More simply, this book reminded me that it is divine to simply be alive.

A spiritual tale, The Story of Q carries ramifications that will echo through every part of the person who is open to receive it. It's a book I needed to take my time with, in order to acclimate to some of the iconoclastic information that it contains. Digging into it, revisiting certain parts again and again, has led me on one of my most important odysseys. I choose to believe that most people live their lives doing the best they can with what they have, and that we are all meant to keep growing and doing better. This book provides tools to do just that.

I found this story complex and fascinating with a beautiful interweaving of the four characters in their journeys towards spiritual enlightenment. I highly recommend this read for those who have questions or difficulties interpreting the relevance of a spiritual path in today's world.
