Product Description

Mention the Queen and the world knows that you are referring to Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. She is the head of the most famous family in the world and has celebrated more than 55 years as British monarch. Royal Correspondent Jennie Bond, a reporter who over the years has been given unprecedented access behind palace walls, tells the incredible story of Elizabeth Windsor, the longest reigning monarch since Queen Victoria. As the eldest daughter of the Duke of York, later George VI, her life has been carefully documented on film from her earliest years. Her quiet childhood as part of a close-knit family was interrupted forever by the dramatic abdication of Edward VIII in 1936 which put her father, reluctantly on the throne. From that moment Elizabeth herself began her training to be queen. Using extraordinary archive footage, including very rare color material stretching back to the 1930s, all the most dramatic events in Elizabeth's life are here, including her marriage to the handsome but penniless Prince Philip of Greece, the birth of her son and heir Charles, her glorious Coronation, as well as the extravagant tours to the most exotic corners of the Commonwealth and the 100th birthday of her own indomitable mother. Queen Elizabeth has witnessed some of the most radical changes in British society's long history, but still remains a much-loved and respected monarch with an incredible story to tell, as well as being an impressive and noble presence in an ever-changing world. This is her story.

I felt the quality of the dvd was not the best. You could not understand the speakers because the voices seemed muffled. Not at all what I expected.

Over the last 20 years or so, I have become a great admirer of the queen of England. Even though I am an American, I have the utmost respect and admiration for a woman who dedicated her life to the royal service how ever long or short it may when she was only 18 years old. Many of the people who have been interviewed on some of the DVD's I have about the Queen have said that she is the glue that holds the country together. This DVD helped me to understand hermore as a person and not just the Queen.
Work not fun. June 13 2013

As a monarchist, I'm always interested in books about royalty and although there's always the temptation to think that it would be nice to be part of such a fairy-tale world, the reality is really quite different and more like hard work than days of fun.
Happy Jubilee Year! Feb. 10 2013

Even if you're not a monarchist or a fan of Britain's royal family you should watch this just in order to see what duty and self-sacrifice really means. When she was 16 she made a tremendous discovery: for whatever reason a visit from the monarch MEANS something to people, it's something they'll remember for the rest of their lives, so YOU MUST NEVER LET PEOPLE DOWN! Her beloved father, George VI, taught her that, and she has lived by it ever since.
