I was excited about hearing this version of "The Student Prince", being a fan of both Robert Rounseville and his excellent interpretation of "The Tales of Hoffmann" in the great film of Powell and Pressburger, and Dorothy Kirsten, a stalwart of the old Met Opera. It was just O.K. Her voice did not seem right for the part and his was good throughout, but not in the same way as in his film. The whole thing seemed a bit thrown together. While it's worth hearing, I must say it's one of the few times the movie version superceded the studio version.
