Filmed in 1964 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, this is arguably the very best rock-concert movie ever made, packed start to finish with nearly two hours of absolutely essential performances by an unprecedented group of American and British rock, pop, soul, and Motown legends. Dig this lineup: Marvin Gaye, the Supremes (look for Teri Garr as one of the dancers during "Where Did Our Love Go?"), Chuck Berry, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Leslie Gore, Jan and Dean, a phenomenal James Brown and the Flames, followed (!) by the Rolling Stones rising to the occasion after Brown's legendary performance (Keith Richards has said that performing after Brown was perhaps the biggest mistake the band ever made). Never released on home video, The T.A.M.I. Show was the holy grail of rock-concert movies. Those who have had to make do with substandard and incomplete bootlegs will agree that it was worth the wait for this collector's edition that restores the long-lost Beach Boys set (listen to director Steve Binder's audio commentary for the story behind its removal). --Donald Liebenson

Description

"In the top three of all rock movies" - Quentin Tarantino It is the Greatest, Grooviest, Wildest, Most Exciting Beat Blast Ever to Pound the Screen!

Filmed just eight months after The Beatles appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, The T.A.M.I. Show introduced rock n soul youth culture to America in the first concert movie of the rock era. One of the rarest and most sought-after performance films from its time, the 1964 concert event featured future Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Supremes and many other American and British Invasion hitmakers in their prime.

This legendary film has never been available on DVD and has not been seen in its entirety since it originally appeared in theaters in 1964. Mastered from a new High Definition transfer and uncut, this complete version features the Beach Boys performances that were removed following the films initial theatrical run. This is what music fans have been waiting for: the ultimate collectors edition of this long-unavailable landmark film.

Filmed at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, October 29, 1964, performances include: Jan & Dean- (Here They Come) From All Over The World Chuck Berry- Johnny B. 5.0 out of 5 stars Amazon Finally, Nov 18 2007

AS a teenager, I got to see the T.A.M.I. show at the "drive in". It was sort of campy back then but what did we care because it was our music on the screen. All the Teenager's Stars give a great performance. Jan & Dean as hosts are joined by the Rolling Stones, Motown's Supremes, Miracles Marvin Gaye, Chuck Berry and more including a classic performance by the Beach Boys.. Its in Black & White, but who cares the music and momentum brings you back to 1964. I'm just glad that the T.A.M.I. show is available!

To finally see the complete T.A.M.I. concert is wish come true. The video is sharp, with crisp image, and this is due to the use of "Electronovision" camera with over 800 lines, way ahead of its time in 1964. Now with the availability of 1080p TV, the resultant image is first class. Even with the loud screaming from the audience, the audio was also excellent, completely live with no lip-sync. Also to see this concert in widescreen is another true blessing. Thank you Shout Factory for job well done. It was really nostalgic to see the original Beach Boys, Supremes and the Rolling Stones, including members like Dennis Wilson, Carl Wlson and Brian Jones, that are no longer with us. To hear Brian Wilson with his crystalline falsetto voice and seeing Mick Jagger at his rawest best is pure delight. The booklet that comes with the DVD is very well written with many details and insights about the cast, and musicians. Another highlight is the excellent choreography by Toni Basil, with all the memorable Go-Go dancers, including Teri Garr. One just cannot resist to get off the chair to do the A-Go-Go with the dancers and music. One final thought is that the screaming from the mostly female audience is loud and spontaneous, and when compared to nowadays, we seem to be more conservative. This is a totally enjoyable DVD and is highly recommended.
