You ever notice "Weird Al" writes a lot of songs about TV?, July 5 2003
This review is from: The TV Album [Best Of] (Audio CD)
If the choice is between a "Weird Al" Yankovic collection such as "The TV Album" or a regular album, then I would almost always affirm my preference for the former. This is especially true since "The TV Album" brings together some of the best satirical songs from the less than stellar early Yankovic albums from the 1980s. Consequently, with this album you pick up "Ricky," which channels "I Love Lucy" by way of Toni Basil's "Micky," the on-point "I Lost on Jeopardy," and the brilliant song "The Brady Bunch," which even manages to work in the lyrics from the show's theme song into a version of "The Safety Dance." "Money for Nothing/Beverly Hillbillies" and "UHF" are the other most recognizable tracks. "The TV Album" is a set below "The Food Album," but then most psychological critics have already established the central importance of food in the work of "Weird Al" Yankovic (the message behind television's medium if you want to invoke Marshall McLuhan). For those who like their "Weird Al" served up from a thematic perspective this saves you the trouble from putting it together yourself.

Good "cheesy compilation" Al-bum, May 11 2003
This review is from: The TV Album [Best Of] (Audio CD)
Hilarious and appropriate whether youve heard the original or not, the TV al-bum is a short and sweet disc. 1. Bedrock Anthem 1/5 Why, oh why does everybody love this? From Alapalooza. 2. I Can't Watch This 5/5 Al redeems himself with this M.C. Hammer parody. Funny stuff 3. Frank's 2000 inch TV 3/5 It did the best it could. From Alapalooza. 4. Money For Nothing/Beverly Hillbillies 4/5 Fans of "UHF" will remember this one. 5. Ricky 5/5 From his debut, self-titled al-bum, comes a parody of "Mickey" about I Love Lucy. 6. Talk Soup 5/5 Excruciatingly funny' title is self-explanitory. 7. Here's Johnny 4.5/5 Surprisingly funny song about Ed Mcmahon. 8. The Brady Bunch 3/5 Dull song about a guy who hates the Brady Bunch. 9. Cable TV 3/5 Not so great, either. 10. I Lost On Jeopardy 4/5 Funny, yet missing something if you don't see the music video. 11. UHF 4/5 "We got it all on UHF...." Weird Al has 7 parodies and 4 originals in this al-bum. Thats a 43/55, approximately a 4. Good job, Al! Thank you for taking the time to read my review and feel free to leave me a helpful/not helpful feedback. God Bless America!
