This review is from: The Tears of God: Presevering in the Face of Great Sorrow or Catastrophe (Paperback)
Spiritual director and psychologist Fr. Benedict J. Groeschel presents Tears of God: Persevering in the Face of Great Sorrow or Catastrophe, a guide for Christians to surviving and coping with times of great distress or loss. Offering prayers most suitable for weathering one's darkest hour, Tears of God looks to Christ's suffering and martyrdom as a source of wisdom and inspiration to all His followers. Amid terrible suffering, Christians are well served to remember Christ's ordeal on the cross, a powerful perspective and truth that no other religious faith can present. A deeply moving work of insurmountable faith, Tears of God is as profound as it is powerful.

Don't expect a personal memoir, July 31 2009
By Catholic priest - Published on Amazon.com
This author's effort at answering the question, "Why do bad things happen to good people?" and then "What to do?" "Salvifici doloris" by Pope John Paul II is a far better meditation on the nature and meaning of redemptive and salvific suffering. "Tears" contains some individual stories of unmerited human suffering, which the papal encyclical does not. Both focus on the central meaning for us of Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection. The compendium of prayers contained in the book during times of suffering is an eclectic, but helpful collection for many different personalities and prayer types. I was disappointed that the book only made tangential references to the author's own suffering and recovery.
