Book Description

An entertaining and inspiring behind-the-scenes look at a Hollywood life and a remarkable love, told in the words of beloved actor Patrick Swayze and his wife, Lisa Niemi, shortly before he passed away.

In a career spanning more than thirty years, Patrick Swayze made a name for himself on the stage and screen with his versatility, passion, and fearlessness. Always a fighter, Patrick refused to let the diagnosis of stage IV pancreatic cancer in February 2008 defeat him. Patrick and Lisa’s bravery inspired legions of fans, cancer patients, and their loved ones, yet this memoir, written with wisdom and heart, recounts so much more. Revealed in vivid detail is Patrick’s Texas upbringing, his personal struggles, his rise to fame, and how his soul mate Lisa stood by his side through it all.

The Time of My Life opens the door for families, individuals, and husbands and wives to grow, bond, and discover entirely new levels of love and sharing, proving that life shouldn’t be lived as a series of endings, but rather as the beginning of greater strength and love. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

I found this book to be an honest account of Patrick's life. It is told so well that you can see both his wife and himself telling you their stories right in front of you. I enjoyed this book so much.

I had thought that this book would be revolving around Patrick's cancer, and was actually surprised when only a few pages were dedicated to that topic. I think part of the appeal that Patrick had with people was perfectly displayed in this biography. He was kind and appreciative of his fans, and never strayed that far from his roots. I appreciated reading about the times when him and his wife didn't have two pennies to rub together and had no idea how they were going to afford to eat from one day to the next. I don't think those experiences were ever that far from their mind, and that was likely why why they never turned into a puffed up Hollywood types. If you are fan, I would definately suggest you read it, and if you aren't a fan but like the stories where the underdog wins the big game, well this might be for you as well. I loved the candor and honesty about the truly horrible moments in his life, and the despair that he felt. It makes him human...like the rest of us.

For those of you interested in the Audio book, it is abridged, so parts are left out. While the parts left out aren't critical, they were still good pieces and worth reading. More often than not the parts cut were dialogue between him and others, or little details about what went on in a movie. It was nice to hear the book read by Patrick rather than some hired person.
