Abducted to 1763, Peter Schock and Kate Dyer begin to understand that history has reached a tipping point. The antigravity machine is in the hands of the cruel and ambitious Lord Luxon -- who has set his sights on the most valuable prize of all: America. He is determined to manipulate time to his advantage, no matter what the cost.
And the cost is great indeed. As Lord Luxon changes more and more of the past for his own gain, terrible time quakes begin to sweep through all of history. Kate Dyer, adrift in time and suffering from an overexposure to time travel, knows that if Lord Luxon is not stopped, the time quakes will tear the universe apart.
Meanwhile Gideon and Peter hunt for their enemy, the Tar Man, in the dark streets of eighteenth-century London, and Peter begins to realize that he may hold the fate of the world in his hands.
The stunning conclusion to the critically acclaimed Gideon trilogy finally reveals the fates of Peter, Kate, Gideon, and the universe itself. This long-awaited book lives up to the promise of The Time Travelers and The Time Thief, delivering a rousing historical adventure that will have readers of all ages on the edge of their seats.

The Time Quake,
By
This review is from: The Time Quake (Hardcover)
The concept of time travel, with its unlimited possibilities and mind-blowing paradoxes, has always held great appeal for those who love to speculate on the "what ifs" of history. Legions of writers from H.G. Wells to Audrey Niffenegger have successfully explored this popular theme but it seems that the public's appetite for time travel is far from sated. The challenge for new authors tackling this genre is to somehow put a fresh spin on the subject while delivering an entertaining and intellectually stimulating tale. Linda Buckley-Archer manages to do all of this exceptionally well in her brilliantly imaginative Gideon Trilogy. While the series is primarily aimed at the young adult market, there is plenty here to hold the interest of older readers. For example, the author's decision to use an anti-gravity machine as the accidental catalyst for time travel is an ingenious plot device that catches everyone off guard. Thus, when two 21st century children are mysteriously transported to the 18th century, no one has a clue what has happened nor are they in any way prepared to deal with the consequences. In that way, Buckley-Archer sets the tone of mystery and suspense early in Book One (The Time Travelers), cranks it up a notch with further complications in Book Two (The Time Thief) and dazzles readers with a brilliant and unexpected plot twist in Book Three (The Time Quake). While all three stories are fast paced, entertaining reads, The Time Quake is certainly the stand-out of the series. Here, for the first time, the plot focuses on a pivotal historical event, namely George Washington's crossing of the Delaware in 1776. Buckley-Archer cleverly devises a scenario wherby a single action can radically change the course of history. Then, of course, it's up to our young time travelers to find a way to reverse the damage and put things right. But when all is said and done and the author informs us that "at least for now, things are as they should be," she seems to be leaving the door open for more adventures to come. Let us hope so.

Fabulous Conclusion to the Trilogy,

This review is from: The Time Quake (Hardcover)
I received this book on October 14 (after having waited over a year for it to be released, and having resisted the impulse to order it from Amazon.uk, where it was released in July) and began reading it immediately. I ate my dinner with it, and stayed buried in it until I had completed it. All I can say is "Wow!" I became completely wrapped up in Lord Luxon's attempt to change history by becoming involved with a modern historian and finding a pivotal point of history to manipulate. His plot, the result, and the growing effect of the time quakes brought about by use of the anti-gravity machine take up only a part of the fabulous series conclusion. In the meantime Kate's tie to the physical world of 1763 grows more tenuous each day; she experiences more of the "fast forward" effect as time goes on and is finally reduced to binding herself to Peter, who she realizes is her "ground." In the present and in the past Peter and Kate's family and friends do their best to recover the children to their own time, and in the end it is Gideon and "the Tar Man" who must make a difficult choice before the time quakes splinter the world. The entire trilogy (TIME TRAVELERS, TIME THIEF, and TIME QUAKE) is highly recommended. The cover blurbs push this as similar to Harry Potter, but please note there is no magic here except for the exciting adventures across past and present which move at a breathless pace, suspense building in each volume. Highly recommended! (Wait--I've said that already, but then it's that kind of book.) 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful

Forget the Harry Potter Comment - it's a fantastic storyline,

This is the last in the Gideon Trilogy and a great conclusion to a time-traveling adventure. I ordered the first book in the series for my son (11) for Christmas. Initially, I was more fascinated by the story line than he was, especially as the characters developed over the centuries and in this particular book Lord Luxon's plans to re-write American history. It took my son a little longer to get captivated by the Gideon Trilogy as it was recommended as 'Harry Potter like'. He's an avid Potter fan and the book is nothing like it. Once you get over that, the story is great, the characters are interesting and exciting and it has been fun to imagine what the Tar Man, Gideon, the Parson and Sir Richard look like. No doubt this will be heading for the big screen, such as Potter and Ink Heart. Many actors sprang to mind that would be a great fit to portrait these characters. On first glance, book 3 is probably the least dramatic of the series. However, the author does not leave us in the dark as to how America may look had history taken a different turn. It is difficult to describe the story without giving the plot away, hence I am limiting myself to "fantastic, the author has 'bottom'!" On the negative side: The recommended age-group is misleading and too restricting, e.g. I do not think that under 12's can appreciate the complex emotions related to the impact that time travel may have and the relationships between the characters in the story. It is a very good fantasy story for the recommended age-group, but a thought provoking study of "what if's" for adults.
