Gary Russell, Genius, Dec 30 2008

I bought this as a Christmas gift for a friend who's an absolute Torchwood nut. I'm a fan myself and when it arrived I could hardly put the book down to wrap it! It's fantastic, with extra material from the original series one website and a compilation of the BBC America Captain's Blog posts, as well as series two website material. While it's nothing new if you're a fan who's followed the extra source material along with the show, it's still a good read, with clever little ins to Doctor Who and jokes from around the Hub. Gary Russell weaves a very interesting tale to "explain" the book itself, too. Definitely something for a Torchwood fan's shelf!

a perfect companion to Series 1 & 2 of Torchwood, Jan 30 2009

This book is much, much more than an episode guide with pretty pictures. The layout of the book is in a format of a top secret manual, and even the insides of the book maintain that. Each episode-specific guide is labeled 'Ongoing Archive Notes', and each has a section on Alien Activity, Alien Technology, Rift Activity, Security, Staff, and Other Staff Issues. The last section often has hilarius commentary like this for example: "Now that we have all tried, it is clear that only Ianto knowns how to operate that damn coffee maker. I suspect it contains alien technology".
Throughout the book you'll see cool things like clips of 'real' newspapers with headlines like "Alien Skeleton Snapped UP by Millionaire Parker', reports by Torchwood staff, and memos between characters. As a Martha fan I really liked the one on page 133.
Overall, if you're a Torchwood fan, then definitely get this book.
