Product Description

On her way to work, for one terrifying instant Jennifer Canfield sees a tiny hand in the trunk of a car that barely misses slamming into her van. A doll? A child? With no time to think she must act and so begins a non-stop, breathlessly suspenseful journey to find the truth and possibly save a life. Stephen Baron, a road construction worker, joins her in her pursuit of a possible kidnapper through the hills of California. And where the chase ends reveals exactly how courage and love can show up when we least expect them and change everything.

From Leland Dirks, author of "ANGELO'S JOURNEY" and "SEVEN DOGS IN HEAVEN: ...Listening to her heart, against the advice of her brain, Jen takes off on an adventurous chase on California backroads where more than the story of the chase is hidden.

Ms. Nash masterfully sets the stage, sculpts believable characters, and sets them free on the page to discover whether their heads or their hearts are more reliable allies in this fight between good and evil.

Your heart wants you to read this book. Before you've turned very many pages, your brain will be glad, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspense throughout Mar 17 2012

I read this book in one sitting. While it's a fast read, it is not an easy one. There is a depth to the story that, while unspoken in words, is breathed into the spirit as the layers of the story fold back. The main characters are all likeable people, except, of course, the bad guy. One thing that stood out to me was the author's handling of the bad guy. Although he is present, not much time is wasted in delving into who he is, which in the end seems to make him that much more evil.

The story is one of a kidnapping, the chase, the wounded soul of the protagonist, and her unlikely partner in rescue. I fully enjoyed the book. It made for a great Sunday afternoon read.

Thanks go out to the author, Carolyn Nash, for such a good story. She has written another book, Raising Abel, which I also intend to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hats off, Ms. Nash-More please!!!! April 14 2012

I found this in the kindle store last night, purchased it, and read it without leaving my chair. It is the best short piece I have read in a long time and kept me reading until the end. I do hope this author will write more!!! Also, I would like to say that it is refreshing to find a piece of short fiction amoung the singles. I would certainly buy more of this type of shotr story. Unlike many of them, this had depth and made sense.

5.0 out of 5 stars No donuts, but the lady found something far more valuable April 14 2012
By J. Chambers - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Single mom Jennifer Canfield's day started out like most any other weekday - a short commute to work, with a stop for a diet-busting chocolate donut. Little did she know that before the day was done she would experience a gamut of emotions, including anger, bitterness, fear, and just perhaps some inklings of a better life to come.

"The Trunk Key" was a suspenseful story of a wild and deadly cross-country pursuit that began simply enough with a good citizen trying to do her civic duty, but soon escalated into a life or death situation. The story was well written, with two likable, sympathetic characters who by chance found themselves thrown together in a mission to prevent a great evil from occurring, an evil that brought back extremely painful memories to one of them.

Proofreading could have been better. I found a few typos, but not enough to be distracting.

With 1,960 Kindle locations, "The Trunk Key" was the length of a short novella.
