1.0 out of 5 stars Insulting to the reader, Jan 7 2012
This review is from: The Ultimate Marketing Plan: Find Your Hook. Communicate Your Message. Make Your Mark. (Paperback)
Mr. Kennedy comes out selling and does not stop. The problem I have with this is that I purchased this book to be helped, not sold to. By page 4 Kennedy is promoting his other books. I get frustrated with this style of book, the type that says I can help you, but only if you purchase this other book. I have no doubt that Mr. Kennedy is skilled at marketing, he did get me to purchase this book, but I received very little insight for my purchase.

As perhaps a final slap in the customers face, the last chapter 'profitably using marketing technologies and online/internet marketing media'. Mr. Kennedy starts the chapter by confessing that he has never used the internet. He rants a little about how society would be better off without it. He tries to justify his authority on internet advertising by convincing us that he does not have the 'moral character' (his actual words pg. 161) to turn his back on such a money making opportunity.

The content of this chapter is just brutal, and essentially boils down to Mr. Kennedy talking a bit about what the internet is, and that some people make money off of it. His big advice if you want to know about Google adwords read somebody else's book. His advice on social media, read somebody else's book. Email marketing advice, was to read somebody else's book. I feel as though I paid for someone's reading list advice. I cannot believe the hubris that is attached to offer something like this for money under the guise of being an authority on the subject.

A quick tally of the promotion of his other items:
Mentions of books in the No BS series: 15 (7 separate titles)
Mentions of his insider circle: 27
Mentions of books he co-authored: 4
Mentions of his partner's book: 2

This means on 26% of the pages, he is promoting another product. This is 100% wrong. It is also complete BS. I guess this is a twist on the paid advertisement, get the customer to pay for the advertisement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Are You Serious About Making Money?, Mar 10 2011
This review is from: The Ultimate Marketing Plan: Find Your Hook. Communicate Your Message. Make Your Mark. (Paperback)
First off, Dan Kennedy has to be one of the most impressive and inspirational business coaches and mentors I've ever come across. The amount of content produced under his name is simply astounding. In The Ultimate Marketing Plan, Dan breaks everything down and offers so many options and variations, I honestly must have already made TEN TIMES my investment from this book, back from my customers. I would not have known how to make this money without the help of this book.

I am not affiliated or associated with Dan Kennedy, however I HAVE read 11 well respected business books in the past month and a half. Of my top 3, #1 is The Ultimate Marketing Plan. #2 is Scientific Advertising and #3 is The Ultimate Sales Letter.

This book is dirt cheap.. Like what, $10? My personal opinion is anyone who comes this close to getting such an amazing business resource and doesn't, is an idiot. It's $10 people. Do yourself a favor. Get the damn book.

I am in the planning stages of a new business venture. I have never written a marketing plan before and needed some insight and advice as to what tactics work and how to write the plan itself.

This book reads like a list of useful one-liner marketing tips and examples of how the author's friends have used them. It is not a how to book on writing a marketing plan, and it does not go into much depth as far as how you might accomplish the things that he recommends.

The most annoying part of this book is that every other page contains an advertisement for you to join some 12-week commitment mailing list that the author has created. He entices you by saying that you will receive additional tips and information for 12 weeks.

HELLO!!! McFLY!!! Didn't I just buy your book so that I could learn your marketing insights? YES! So then why do you make it seem like I just paid for the teaser information, and that the good stuff is behind the curtain that requires me to become a pawn in your marketing career? My price of admission stops at the price of this book, and it should not seem like I'm only getting half of the story that I paid for!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lively presentation of marketing basics, July 4 2006
By Rolf Dobelli "getAbstract" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Ultimate Marketing Plan: Find Your Hook. Communicate Your Message. Make Your Mark. (Paperback)
Author and speaker Dan Kennedy has written a basic, solid manual for marketing practitioners. He covers all the familiar fundamentals from developing a unique selling proposition (USP), to practicing target marketing, to using testimonials and celebrity endorsements. His plan is well organized, carefully thought out and based on his own extensive experience in marketing and sales. Certainly Kennedy's plan, which is made up mostly of tried-and-true marketing strategies, can help your business. However, seasoned marketing professionals looking for new tactics will require something more advanced. We suggest this book to marketers beginning their careers, small business owners conducting in-house marketing or people in other fields seeking an overview of marketing.

If you are into marketing at all - especially online marketing - you know about Dan Kennedy. And you either love him or hate him. I actually love his approach and strategies because at the end of the day - they work. So when I read this book I was wondering how informative it would be. I probably should have read this book when I was starting my business because while it is pretty comprehensive etc. it is written primarily for the beginning marketer. So if you are starting your business - I recommend that you pick this book up and introduce yourself to Dan's philosophy and proven strategies for marketing your business. It's worth the read.
