Too cute to be really scary.,

This review is from: The Unborn (Unrated) (DVD)
This movie might have been scarier if not for one problem: The big ant-like bugs that sporadically and inexplicably pop out of everything, and never cease to terrify Odette Yustman, are kind of, uh, cute. Seriously, they're chubby little ants with chubby little legs and chubby little antennae.... They're CUTE! And they never actually do anything bad, or even act like they want to, so you start to wonder why they send our heroine into hysterics every time they jump out of chicken eggs or bathroom plumbing. Add the insanely cute Yustman into the mix, and we have a cute little horror movie, albeit one that admittedly made me jump and jolt a few times. Except when the ants showed up. Then I just tilted my head to one side and said "Awwwww...." And don't forget Gary Oldman. It's so great to see him getting away from the perpetual villain rut he seemed to be stuck in throughout the past decade or so.

maybe it's just me,but i actually enjoyed this movie.it definitely hada creepy vibe going all through it.it builds tension and suspense nicely and maintains an eerie atmosphere throughout.it may not be the most original movie, but i think parts of it were.i also thought the acting was pretty good.there are also some subtle clues in the movie.it's one of the better supernatural thrillers i've seen in the last while.for me,The Unborn is a 4/5

One star for The Unborn...,

...just because Odette Yustman is such a little firecracker !!! The movie itself contains just about every Hollywood clichés, expressions, speeches and scenarios so overused that they make you feel a little dumber inside when subjected to them. If you want really creepy, just go to old school classic horror films from the 70's (with subtlety & wit) like The Omen, The Exorcist or Rosemary's Baby...or newer films like Ringu. Avoid at all cost !
