1.0 out of 5 stars Problems with Mr. Locke's book. April 20 2011
By Furchizedek - Published on Amazon.com

On [...] it says that Malcolm Locke "began reading The Urantia Book in 1973." It says Mr. Locke is a college professor and that he incorporates "insights from The Urantia Book into his lectures." It says his book "is a succinct and lucid digest of The Urantia Book (TUB)." And so on. The reviews are mostly raves, 5 stars.

Here's something I don't understand: On pages 2 and 3 (very early in the book in other words), Mr. Locke lists the number of "Papers" in each of the 4 Parts of The Urantia Book. He shows it like this:

Part I. The Universe, 46 papers
Part II. The Local Universe, 48 papers
Part III. The History of Urantia, 76 papers
Part IV. The Life of Jesus, 116 papers

Not one of those listings of the number of papers is correct. It's like the numbers were plucked out of thin air. They're all wrong. The actual numbers are, respectively, 31, 25, 63, and 77. The real numbers add up to 196, the actual number of Papers in The Urantia Book. Mr. Locke's set of numbers adds up to 286 papers.

This does not bode well for the rest of Mr. Locke's book. I can't think of any explanation for it that I like. And I can't understand how a long time reader of The Urantia Book could have made such an error. Wasn't the book proofread? The solution? Read The Urantia Book in its complete form and skip the summaries and paraphrased versions.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice sampling of the Truth found in the Urantia. May 25 2011
By Teresa - Published on Amazon.com
I thought that if God was consistent throughout time than Truth existed throughout time. I read everything from the Bible, the Koran, the Hermetical, alchemy, the Kolbrin, translated Babylonian texts, the Emerald Tablet, Buddha's teachings, Lao Tzu, and the Vedas. The Truth was consistent. Man tends to muddle up the Truth as they project the Truth onto their current socioeconomic culture but the original message was always the Truth. I read books on the history of religion, followed archeology religiously, studied quantum theory, Cosmology, new biology and still ached for more. Then I found the Urantia Book. It was complete. All my questions were there in a language I could decipher. Some concepts made me uncomfortable but it all fit together in harmony. Just as I imagined it would if I could have put all the pieces together myself. Thank you for allowing me to find it after such a long search.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Nov 8 2010

I purchased the Urantia book about 5 years ago and attempted to read it from beginning to end. The first two sections I had a difficult time getting through and skipped to Parts 3 and 4 which read more like a story. The first two sections of the Urantia Book were, for me, hard to comprehend for a variety of reasons, and I felt like it was a painful task, like studying. Locke's book is such a gift because it summarizes that material in an a style and length not intimidating or painful at all. I'm very thankful for this because, although it's been one of my greatest desires to comprehend the entirety of this book, it would have been years, maybe a lifetime, for me to get through the UB itself. Very well-written, consistent in style, and seemingly unbiased.
