Book Description

Mar 15 2010 Vampire Diaries: The Return (Book 2)
The first book in a new trilogy from L. J. Smith!

Elena Gilbert is alive--again.

When Elena sacrificed herself to save the two vampire brothers who love her--the handsome, brooding Stefan and the sleek and dangerous Damon--she was consigned to a fate beyond death. Until a powerful supernatural force pulled her back.

Now Elena is not just human. She has powers and gifts that were bestowed on her in the afterlife. What's more, her blood pulses with an overwhelming and unique force that makes her irresistible to any vampire.

Stefan wants to find a way to keep Elena safe so that they can make a life together. Damon, however, is driven by an insatiable desire for power, and wants Elena to rule as his princess. When Stefan is lured away from Fell's Church, Damon seizes his chance to convince her that he is the brother she is meant to be with. . . .

But a darkness is infiltrating the town, and Damon, always the hunter, is now the hunted; he becomes the prey of a malevolent creature that can possess him at will, and who desires not just Elena's blood but her death.

I read the Vampire Diaries the series, I found the books was very good except the last book The Return Night Fall the book consists of 586 pages the first few chapters very interesting it kept me glued on to the book however I found the book seems to drag on and on it felt like I was reading an text book where I was hurrying to read up fast so I could end the book. Overall it was poorly done compare to the other books before this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother if you Love the TV Series Dec 23 2012

I think the TV series has made too much of an impression on me to like the book series now. I love the Vampire Diaries on TV but the story lines in the books are too far away from the TV show for me to like. I find the Book stories are just too far fetched and not very believable. (Not that the TV shows is either but it is not crazy kind of out there.) The books are just waaaaaaayyyyyyyyy out there. So I tried but just couldn't get into these books. I do not like a book that I have to force myself to read. Basically if you love the TV show don't read the books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dull, I was hoping for more excitement Jun 1 2009
By Sam TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Nightfall by L J Smith is very slow. It has 587 pages in total and it starts to get somewhat exciting after page 135. However, only the parts with Damon, I found, were the most exciting. It was quite funny when he kept flashing smiles to no one in particular, just because of his evil thoughts. It's good to find out what happens with Elena and Stefan too, but I wanted a more exciting tale. I think it was better to have left The Vampire Diaries as it was - without a sequel.

I was hoping for this book to end, and it really could have been about 300 pages shorter. Maybe it's because it should have been read right after I finished the other books in the Vampire Diaries series, or maybe I am bored of this genre, or also it could be aimed for a much younger audience.

The prose was also dull to read. It felt as though a robot had written it; each sentence was a cliché. There isn't much of a complete ending, so you will still need to read the next book in the series when it comes out to find out what happens. I will not be reading that.

The novel continues where the other one left off. Elena Gilbert is alive and is only a few days old. She has powers that no ordinary human possesses. With Damon, Stefan, who are both vampires, and Elena residing in Fell's Church, where the Ley lines meet, more supernatural beings are being attracted to it.

Two creatures from hell have come and started to possess girls and even Damon. Will the people of Fell's Church stand a chance against creatures from hell? Will Elena become a human once again? Will Damon ever get over Elena?
