When I first received this book I looked at all the pictures first.What a feast for the eye..I could not put it down. It is a superb compendium of all things Victorian. If you need information on any detail of the Victorian era, here it is. This is not a fluff book.. It provides substance.

I bought this book as an aid in restoring and decorating my 1857 home in the US. While this was an interesting read with a lot of nice eye candy photos, it didn't end up being too useful to me because it really only covers European and UK Victorian structures, and VERY fancy ones at that. Average American Victorian homes like mine aren't really covered. It's also not too in-depth, due to the very large amount of different features and structures covered. Like I said, though, it's still an interesting read but more for its historical information than as a working source for your own home. Unless you own a palace in Wales, anyway. ;)

I order this book to help in my restoration of an old victorian house. I was very pleased with the photos and the range of ideas. The advice given in the book was also quite helpful. I return to the book often to browse the photos again when I am in need of inspiration.
