Book Description

Sep 1 2006
If you’re like most people on the planet, the natural, creative energy you were born with has become trapped within as you constantly strive to meet family, social, and work expectations. Now, in this groundbreaking book, Bob McCulloch and Julia Gluck, veteran coaches and motivators, show you how to liberate your natural energy. Using many real-life stories, they walk you through these proven, powerful practices: A – awareness: staying mindfully aware of self and others, capturing and cherishing your lightness, and being thoughtfully authentic; E – engagement: getting and staying personally engaged, staying resolved without attachment, and accepting and supporting your mutuality with others; O – openness: accepting every idea’s inevitable relevance, allowing and fully appreciating fresh associations, and perceiving the positives in every idea that comes your way;and, U – understanding: acknowledging and suspending judgment, confirming your understanding, and embracing the power of the both/and. And they show how all of these practices are orchestrated by, I – integrity, as your Thoughtful I helps you intervene between your emotions and responses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get and stay engaged Feb 2 2007
Sometimes we all have trouble not only getting engaged, but also staying engaged in a project. Mastering this concept is just one of the things you will learn to do when you read - and use - this book. The authors have made the book simple and easy to follow and have provided real scenarios where the concepts worked.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing and inspirational book for everyone Jan 12 2007
As an executive coach I have read many books on leadership and personal development. The Vowels of Personal Power has become an important arrow in my leadership quiver. After reading the book for the first time, I immediately purchased 20 copies as gifts for my clients. On asking for feedback from the recipients, I have yet to have any comments other than resoundingly positive and grateful. The Vowels of Personal Power is well written, easy to follow and very simple to understand - and these are the keys to being able to use it as a catalyst for personal change. Bob and Julia have done an amazing job of condensing their years of experience, advice and intellectual agility into 173 pages. I have two copies - one on my night table and one in my attaché case which I use as a ready reference. Well done, Bob and Julia! Thanks for making a "best of breed" contribution to my leadership arsenal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Broad spectrum applicability Jan 22 2007
Halfway through reading the book I also bought more copies as gifts for friends and clients. The people I passed it on to come from many different job sectors ranging from Montessori Teacher, Communications, Mediation and Conflict Resolution, CEO Actra, Parents of teenagers, Mental Health Nurse,Musician, Chef etc. They also represent several different cultures and ethnic backgrounds. The concepts in the book have been immediately and easily applicable to all who have given me feedback. The more we can find ways of relating and communicating that are fundamental to being human and humane without losing the value of unique and diverse backgrounds is, I think, one of the heroic journeys of any lifetime or age. The Vowels of Personal Power is a good and useful tool for this endeavor.
