Product Description

Review

Zombie-apocalypse stories are perfect for miserable winter weather regardless, but for those obsessed with The Walking Dead (such as yours truly), this is essential reading. This is the epitome of a page-turner, and makes subway rides just breeze by. And, that end -woof. (REFINERY29)

An excellent companion to the The Walking Dead comic books. The story is enriched by the novel format, and the characterization of the series' most hated villain is something no fan will want to miss. (Examiner.com)

This book stands alone and is a compelling read for fans of the series or just fans of zombies. Watch out though, because once you get a taste of the particular Kirkman brand of zombie mayhem, catching up on past issues is just around the corner. (The Ossuary)

The story makes a great novel. You'll get sucked in and can easily visualize everything that is happening. It's simply a great read. (Comicvine.com)

It takes great advantage of the literary medium in a way that most tie-in books would not. (TVOverMind.com)

Not for the faint of heart, this book runs on pressure-cooker suspense, graphically described bloodshed, and dark acts of brutality...This riveting character study adds a new dimension to the oeuvre by fleshing out established characters and plot lines. (School Library Journal)

I kind of figured, being a fan of the show and the graphic novels, that this book would be a little redundant, but it wasn't. It gives a very interesting back story into one of the most interesting characters in the graphic novels. Really great read for any zombie fan, whether they like the series or not.

The Walking Dead franchise is taking off beyond the graphic novels and television show. There are talks of a theme park and a movie and now there is this full length novel. It tells the story of how "The Governor" became the man he is in a world where society has forever changed. The story is gritty, close and uncomfortable which serves to put the reader into the clutches of the undead. The characters and situations are raw. But its greatest asset is the 'Agatha Christie-like Ten Little Indians" plot that provides entertaining twists and turns. It is high-quality zombie convention delivered at a time when there is too much sub-par work being produced through the wonders of self-publishing. I look forward to other novels from this franchise.

Such a great insight into the governor, I went back and re-read some of the Walking Dead comics again, but with my new understanding and knowledge! Fast paced and a great read. So great to have a back story and such a complex and interesting one at that! can't say enough good things, just read it!, a must have for Walking Dead fans!!

If you're going to or have already read the Walking Dead graphic novels, definitely pick this book up too. It's a terrific addition to the story. I enjoyed it much more than the WD graphic novels because I prefer a book with no pictures. Well written and informative, it's definitely worth the money!

I enjoy the TV show and the comics as well. I'm not a fan of Spinoffs but I thought I'd give this a try. Starting with the Kindle sample, I was hooked and have to say when I got to the end, my jaw dropped and now I'm on a mission to convince my wife (A fan of the show) to read this as well.

This is the story that follows the Governor from the beginning of the Zombie outbreak. It shows the kind of person he was and what made him the man he became. It's really great and I love the twist at the end. This is the first book in the series. I recommend it if you are a fan of the show.

Terrible writing. I really expected a better novel than this. A very confusing narrative of the Governor character if you're a fan of the comic and television show. I understand that this novel is about the comic character but the show utilizes some aspects of this story.

Story explaining what kind of man was the Governor and what made him the character he is in the "Walking Dead series". Really nice writing. This writer was an excellent choice to make the "Walking Dead" side stories shine.
