The Wall is less a collection of songs than a single work, which is sometimes frustrating; the plot lacks enough coherence to hold the snippets of music together. However, there are occasional flashes of brilliance on what arguably ranks as Pink Floyd's most ambitious project. Most of these come from the fully developed songs, which have become classics in their own right; "Hey You," "Mother," and especially "Comfortably Numb" are subtly incredible pieces of music. Though complex, they move at a relaxed pace, allowing the listener to absorb them slowly; this kind of pacing was something Pink Floyd excelled at. Also worth noting is the "Another Brick in the Wall/The Happiest Days of Our Lives" medley, which has become a staple of rock radio. --Genevieve Williams

Entre concept album et opéra rock, The Wall trouve Pink Floyd au sommet de son ambition. Le groupe, dominé ici par Roger Waters, utilise la même discipline que celle utilisée lors la composition de Dark Side Of The Moon, abandonnant le psychédélisme de ses débuts. Le résultat en devient plus accessible, plus traditionnellement rock dans la structure des morceaux, ce qui ne signifie pas pour autant moins original. Car ces 26 chansons tournant toutes autour du thème de l'enfermement sont truffées de bruitages, renforçant systématiquement l'impact des paroles. Cris, explosions, échos, tout est bon pour souligner la noirceur et la claustrophobie d'un futur totalitaire. D'abord oppressante, puis de plus en plus scandée comme un hymne, la chanson "Another Brick In The Wall" revient comme un leitmotiv tout au long de l'album. Elle ponctue une oeuvre aux accents wagnériens, renforcés par des orchestrations de Michael Kamen, qui signait là ses premiers arrangements pour le Floyd. --Ruby Wednesday

[2012 Immercion box set]Would of gave it 5 stars but I found the visual material to be less than perfect. Sure it's nice to have the documentary [finally - especially after the low quality editions found on the Internet] but there isn't really much else. And why no Blu-ray? Would of loved to see all or part of a Wall concert from the era on DVD and Blu-ray. Also lacking is a DVD audio and Blu-ray audio of the album itself - after all Wish You were Here and Dark Side of the mOnn had them. Packaging is like the others but with one exception. Digipack spots are available for 4 of the v6 CDs and 1 DVd [what about the 3 others?] but all 7 discs come in cardboard sleeves. I guess the studio album and the live album get the digipack treatments. It's nice to see the excerpts and full track demos done primarily by Waters and with the band. Unsure why the live album released about 12 years ago was included. It was part of a separate release [this is where they could of been replaced by an unreleased live DVD and Blu-ray instead]. Once again 3 marbles [and a bag] and memorabilia duplicates, plus the scarf, a print, a huge poster-like sheet with the lyrics [interesting because the lyrics are already in one of two books], 2 books with pictures and info, etc. Started to listen to the studio album and the first thing I noticed is the volume is lower than the last few albums I played. Second thing I noticed is that CD 1 is about a dozen seconds shorter than the remastered version from 1997.

This is so excellent and coherent, it almost hurts. So good.If you are already familiar with the beauty and genius that is Pink Floyd, why not add this masterpiece to your collection? Also, newcomers alike. Don't be afraid, this is the way to go, a wonderful place to start your Pink Floyd -journey. (That's how I started, and haven't looked back since..) Although this is a rock-opera, hence tells a story and is a concept-album like many other Pink Floyd -albums, that doesn't mean you can't remove the songs out of the context. Though I strongly recommend you to listen to this through several times, to get the story straight and to be amazed by the aching beauty of this work. But do feel free jump to your favourites after that, if you want to. I do so, but I also listen to the whole album from time to time. This is one of my all-time favourites! My highlights include: Comfortably Numb, Hey You, Goodbye Blue Sky, Another Brick In The Wall ( all three parts, but especially part I), Thin Thin Ice and Young Lust. Oh, did I already say, that this is ReCoMMenDeD... :oD ( Very warmly and highly)

Nice packaging.I have the original CD and compared it with this one. Try as I would I could not detect any difference whatsoever between the two. If anything there might be a bit more brilliance and bite to the original. I can't be sure.
