Book Description

April 10 2003
The basis for the cult-classic film 'The Warriors' chronicles one New York City gang's nocturnal journey through the seedy, dangerous subways and city streets of the 1960s. Every gang in the city meets on a sweltering July 4 night in a Bronx park for a peace rally. The crowd of miscreants turns violent after a prominent gang leader is killed and chaos prevails over the attempt at order. 'The Warriors' follows the Dominators making their way back to their home territory without being killed. The police are prowling the city in search of anyone involved in the mayhem. An exhilarating novel that examines New York City teenagers, left behind by society, who form identity and personal strength through their affiliation with their "family," 'The Warriors' weaves together social commentary with ancient legends for a classic coming-of-age tale. This edition includes a new introduction by the author.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Can U dig it,... ?!!!" April 22 2003
Format:Paperback
Although much of the attention surrounding this novel comes from its film adaption, Walter Hill's stylized, surreal street gang epic, Sol Yurick's original novel is well worth a read, finally in print after decades!!! While Hill's film was very much an action adventure fest, this novel is a grim tale of how street gangs spawned in the extreme poverty in New York's worst neighborhoods, descriptions of housing project life, urban violence, this isn't a story of heroes and villains like the movie was. Based on Xenophon's Anabasis, this story follows a Coney Island street gang in its miles-long trek across the urban wasteland, just to make it home. A great novel, great movie...can u dig it?....

5.0 out of 5 stars Old School Flavor and Bravery. April 30 2003

Format:Paperback
This book is fiction but it used to go down like this in real life. Once upon a time, in the recent past, gangs would actualy fight and not just shoot and run. The Warriors were a multi racial gang and their leader / shot caller was one bad white dude. After being wrongfully blamed for puting a hit on a heavy weight gang boss, the Warriors are targeted. Far away from their own territory, they have to make it back to the safety of their "Set," or turf, when the news of the Warriors deed hits the streets. They have to travel through every, Varrio, Set, Hood, Burro and enemy turf back to their own and it is acton packed. The book starts fast and ends fast with a great ending.
