Dull,
This review is from: Water Is Wide (Audio CD)
I bought this after having collected the other "Celtic Woman Presents" albums, expecting more of the same quality. Orla's voice has never really stood out to me (especially in comparison to the beauty and perfection of Meav's), but in the original "Celtic Woman" show she wasn't really given all that much to do, either. However, I was utterly disappointed by this CD. Orla, finally given the chance to really shine, does not rise to the occasion. Her voice is dull and completely devoid of emotion; the haunting strains of "Carrickfergus" were wasted here. Also, why must I pay for yet another Celtic Woman version of the former as well as "Siuil a Run" and "She Moved Thru the Fair"? The latter is on no less than 4 Celtic Woman albums, and is at its worst here. And while this CD does offer a host of new selections (perhaps more than the other albums), they just aren't up to the standard set by the others. So if you're new to the world of Celtic Woman, please bypass this CD and try the far superior solo albums of the other four girls. Overall, this CD was just too dull and (for lack of a better word) boring to earn a recommendation (or more than 1 star). Only the extreme completist needs this CD in his/her collection. If you do not "have to have" this album, then do not waste your time.

Music for the Soul,
By Dr. Tracy M. Baker "Dr. Tracy" - Published on Amazon.com
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Water Is Wide (Audio CD)
This is the best, most emotion-provoking music I have heard in all my life. Cad e Sin Don te Sin and Siuil a Run give me goose bumps each time I hear them. I like some of most types of music and have heard music from most parts of the world and "The Water is Wide" touches my soul better than any I have heard. The harp tones and vocal tones are incredibly pure and clear. Most CDs have some recordings on them that are just what I call "fill-ins". On this one, every song is excellent and some are outstanding. I play this CD multiple times each day between my patients and when I am dictating as it is soothing and inspiring at the same time. This is music that makes you feel that there is still something pure and good in this crazy world. You can't help but like this it! Buy it!

Outstanding Traditional Irish Music,
By Stu Mostinsky - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Water Is Wide (Audio CD)
Orlagh Fallon is a very talented young artist. She is an accomplished harpist and vocalist. Her CD "The Water is Wide" is a collection of traditional Irish tunes that will certainly send shivers through your body. Orlagh has a very soulful sound and it is very moving to hear her sing. This cd is an accoustical pleasure from beginning to end. Several of the songs are sung in Irish Gaelic, and the rest in english. I highly reccommend this cd to those that enjoy Irish music. I especially reccommend this cd to those that enjoy beautiful music, even if you're not familiar with the traditional Irish fare.

More Authentic than the others,
By Michael Wheeler "Stratocaster" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Water Is Wide (Audio CD)
I bought the DVD/CD Celtic Woman last week and a whole new world of music opened up to me.I was entranced with the Violin by Mairead, and the superb vocals by Meav and Lisa. Orla (Orlaugh) to me is the most authentic and sings the most traditional songs of the 4 vocalists. Orla also has a wonderful Celtic accent which gives the music a more realistic sound. Lisa as great as she is tends to sing modern songs. Most of her songs are from movies, such as Lord of the Rings or shows like Riverdance. Meav is another great singer but she would fall under the same heading. Orla loads her album with traditional songs. She also sings my favorite, The Water is Wide. Her song selection in my mind is the best of the four vocalists hands down. You cant go wrong with albums by any of these singers, but if you want the real thing, Orla is the woman. She is also a superb harp player and her harp playing alone is worth buying this CD..................Enjoy |
