Simply a masterpiece,

This review is from: The White Mountains (Paperback)
The White Mountains, along with the other two parts of a 3 book series, are without a shred of doubt, the masterpiece of juvenile book writing by John Christopher. I received the Persian translation of "The White Mountains" and "The City of Gold and Lead" as a gift for my 12th birthday back in Iran. First of all, I read both books at the very least 100 times! Then my 7 year journey began to find the third book of these series called "The Pool of Fire" as this book was simply unavailable in Iran. I let everyone know about my search and when finally after 7 years, one of my friends' cousin told me that he had seen the third book in the window of a small old book store, I left whatever I was doing, stormed to the book store, bought the book and started reading it in front of the store's sidewalk! These books became and still are part of me at the age of 37. They broadened my sense of imagination, adventure, love of universe and life. I am presently living in Canada as a Canadian citizen, along with my wife, enjoying a wonderful life. These books ignited my passion and boosted my courage to leave my revolution-stricken country behind and led me to an unbelieveably hard path towards Canada. It took me exactly 4 years to get here but I never lost the courage all along. Those heroes in the books, always stayed with me. Thank you John Christopher and God bless you wherever you are.

This review is from: The White Mountains (Mass Market Paperback)
Centuries ago, the Tripods took over Earth and enslaved mankind. Every human wears a helmet made of metal that makes it so they are controlled by the Tripods. There is a period of time in one's childhood, however, where one is free to think for oneself. When thirteen-year-old Will is told that there is a place in the mountains where there are people free of the Tripods, he decides he doesn't want to be capped and runs away. Along the way, he is joined by a childhood friend and an old man. Their journey goes fairly well, until Will becomes really sick and the three have to seek shelter in a medieval-like town. Will meets the town's princess and her family and is invited to become part of their group. He becomes torn between becoming capped and finding acceptance or following his friends to the mountains. Will Will make it to the mountains to freedom, or will he sacrifice that freedom for a life of luxury? A compelling adventure story filled with action and suspense. Readers will like this science fiction story splashed with a medieval times feel as well as the well-developed plot and characters. A fast-paced story that keeps you at the edge of your seat, WHITE MOUNTAINS is a great start to the TRIPODS series (and don't forget to check out the companion novel, WHEN THE TRIPODS CAME). Readers who like science fiction and adventure will enjoy reading this book, as well as the others in the series. Reviewed by: Kira M

The Reason I like this book is that first I love to read books that don't talk about one subject for half the book. I like to read books that keep on going like this one. It does, though, talk to little about things, but I get really bored with a lot. I like to read also that this book is just full of adventure and adventure books are by far the best. The book is very origianal too. It's is a very unique book by far because firstly the time setting. It takes place in the future, but it seems like the past. It seems like the past because they have no technology because the unique atagonists destroyed them. The atagonists are like robotic, three legged stools and that is very creative.
