3.0 out of 5 stars interesting, Sep 6 2006

I was bothered by the grammatical errors in this book. I wasn't sure whether this could be attributed to poor editing or that the book was written back in the days of slavery.

The content of the book was blatant, shocking and astounding. However it made a lot of sense. Some of the themes re: dark skin and light skin and good hair and bad hair still pervade African-American and African-Canadian psyches today as most people are still very brain-washed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Even if it was fiction, Jan 27 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Willie Lynch Letter: And the Making of a Slave (Paperback)
Though it may not be real, as I've seen around, it does describe the psychology of slavery. Why deny it? While the psychology of slavery, the way locking down a person's mind will be true slavery, or labor without pay is slavery, is true. This book should be considered, as a mere study of the processes of slavery.

Though this speech at the river may never had existed, this explains slavery well.

Though other books should be considered, such as "Mis-education of the Negro" by Carter G. Woodson. And works of W.E.B. Dubois "Souls of the Black Folk" should be read.

Interesting though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's tell the whole truth, Dec 12 2003
This review is from: The Willie Lynch Letter: And the Making of a Slave (Paperback)
I've read the The Willie Lynch Letter and whether it's true or not is not the point. The principle ideas expressed in the book can help us as black people recognize that we have a problem communicating and cooperating with each other. If you want to critisize the validity of the literature then let's also critisize the Lies and half truths taught to our children (of all races) everyday in the school systems. I believe that anyone who denounces this book must have been smacked in the face by reality and either fears the task of responsibility or the response of those who thinks of the book as enlightening and revolutionary.
