Just when you thought Dorothy was safe from the Wicked Witch...she's not! There's trouble in Oz! The Wicked Witch of the West is now fully resurrected and in possession of Dorothy's magic shoes. With the magic shoes, she is more powerful than ever before and after returning to her castle, she takes over all of western Oz. Then, with an army of flying monkeys and enslaved Winkies, she marches south to attack Trisha, the Good Witch of the South, whom she had once feared, but now is out for revenge. If she is successful, the Good Witch of the North will be next and then all the good in Oz will be lost forever. The Land of Oz is a battleground and all the good countries have joined together to try and stop the Wicked Witch of the West who seems to have no weaknesses. When all seems hopeless, it's the Scarecrow who realises he holds the Wicked Witch of the West's one weakness in the palm of his hand.

Simple, but entertaining

David Anthony has supposedly written a three-book series of Oz books (In Search of Dorothy, The Witch's Revenge, and Dorothy and the Wizard's Wish) but only the first two appear to have actually reached publication. I purchased the first one online from a second-hand book vendor but never received it, and I have been unable to locate the third book anywhere or get any reply from the author or publisher. So, this review is based only on the second book, The Witch's Revenge. I'm sure the other two books would be similar in tone, style and content. In the first place, these are children's books so the serious devotee of All Things Ozian may be disappointed a bit. They feature a "Wow, Golly Gee" writing style appropriate to elementary-school chldren but that doesn;t really detract all that much from the story, which is actually pretty good. If you're interested in reading someone else's vision of what may have actually happened in Oz after Dororthy returned home to Kansas, you may enjoy these books. If you can find them.

What a fun read these new Oz books have been. I read alot of fiction and this book is in my top five. But make sure you read the first oz book, In Search of Dorothy, or you won't get what's going on here. Not a literary masterpiece but what fiction is? Just a fun read for all ages. I give it a thumbs up, must read, 5 stars!
