My 3 year old daughter loved this book. We read it almost nightly for at least a few months and she continues to pick it frequently even now. I appreciate the amount of imagination and ingenuity the main character shows. Overall highly recommended.
Role reversal! Oct. 1 2014

Stella is ready for bed, but her three stuffed animals are wide awake! In fact, their eyes are wide open, and they are jumping on the bed. "Stoppety-stop!" says Stella. But the animals aren't ready to sleep. "I'm the world champion of staying awake!" says Cherry Pig. Stella is prepared for the situation, though. For each animal she creates an imaginary world of quiet, warmth, and safety, and they are soon asleep.

I love the way Stella creates a mini sleep-world for each of her animals. I wish I had thought of this for my own wide-eyed preschoolers! I also like the way the story is told in prose, but the imaginary sleep-worlds are described in rhyme, giving a gently rocking sound to the scene.

Jimmy Liao's watercolors show the wide-awake Frog with huge eyes open, dangling from the head of the bed, and dancing on sleepy Stella's tummy, then later, eyes closed, cuddled up to Stella in bed. A charming book for children aged 3 to 6.

I first bought this book as a joke because my granddaughter was a poor sleeper... but the story line is wonderful with the characters. I absolutely love reading this book! The story is wonderful, easy enough for a toddler to understand, but also engaging enough for an older child. The pictures in the book are just beautiful. This goes on my list for gift giving now.

My almost 3 year old has loved this book for the past several months. The artwork is beautiful and the story is sweet. What toddler can't relate to wanting to stay up longer?! ;) I have since given another copy as a birthday gift for a 3 year old, and the price on Amazon for the hardcover version was awesome!
