4.0 out of 5 stars It's Motörhead; what more can we ask for? Feb 11 2011
By Eric Chiasson TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
When buying a Motörhead album we know exactly what to expect... Or do we? Well, yes we actually do & there's nothing wrong with that because, what we usually expect, is great quality songs. "The World is Yours" is exactly that... Great quality music. I heard someone tell me once that Motörhead were just 3 dudes making loud noise. I'm own personal opinion you have to be really ignorant to think such a thing (& also to refer to Lemmy as simply "dude"). The best quality about this band is that you always get a mix of Metal, Punk, Rock & Blues with the occasional surprise like the title tracks to "March or Die" & "1916". While there is no real surprise on this album, "The World is Yours" delivers from start to finish. Not overly amazing but enjoyable nonetheless, this new offering will have no problems satisfying both long-time & newer fans. The band sounds tight as ever. Mickey Dee is playing thunderous drums as , Phil Campbell is dishing out riffs & leads like only he can & what can be said about Lemmy that hasn't been said before? Lemmy is Rock n' Roll. Period! For a man who's in his sixties, he sounds like he will be doing this until is 90 (which wouldn't surprise me one bit). The songs are so good that it's quite hard to pick only one as the stand out track of the album. As far as the DVD goes, it's Motörhead live... Enough said.

5.0 out of 5 stars More hooks than Paul McCartney and Abu Hamza in a fishing contest Jan 21 2011
By Nigel Waspfinger - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Motorhead are a band that rarely disapoint. I may be in the minority that thinks that Kiss of Death (2006) was awful but other than that, even at their most mediocre Motorhead have been jolly good. In their now 35 years of rocking and rolling, Motorhead have released several stone cold classic albums. The last of these being Inferno, in my view... until now. The World is Yours might be the best Motorhead album in 15 or 20 years and there is some mighty competition in that time period (1916, Bastards, Overnight Sensation, Inferno). It's ultimately pointless trying to decide whether it tops those classic albums, it is simply another great Motorhead album and, to me anyway, a legitimate return to form. Returning to form is something Motorhead are accused of every 4 to 5 years or so, whenever the media decide that it's time to give them some credit again.

The great thing about the World is Yours is incredibly catchy. Motorhead haven't sounded this melodic since Bastards. Almost every song has a killer chorus. What is also noticable is that the music is predominantly on the rock n roll side of the fence with the more heavy metal leanings eschewed somewhat. Lemmy will rarely acknowledge that Motorhead play heavy metal but although based in rock n roll roots, Motorhead have cetainly had an equal portion of heavy metal thrown into the mix in the Mikkey Dee days. Not so much on this record. Maybe Born to Lose and certainly Brotherhood of Man (very much like Orgasmatron) are metal but the rest is pure dirty rock n roll with great melodies.

Stand out tracks:
I Know How to Die
Get Back in Line
Outlaw
Rock and Roll Music

No bad songs on here at all. Nothing to skip.

I always like to think that there are 8 essential Motorhead albums from throughout their career. Albums that truly represent the cream of their studio output. These albums also conveniently cover all the line ups which itself is testament to the band's quality. They are Overkill, Ace of Spades, Another Perfect Day, Orgasmatron, 1916, Bastards, Overnight Sensation and Inferno. The World is Yours is getting added to that list.

5.0 out of 5 stars ....Why do we vote for faceless dogs ? We always take the bait, All things come to he who waits, But all things come too late !! Feb 18 2011

If you like Motorhead then you already have this album \m/\m/
This album has a very intresting mixture. You get parts of going to brazil from "1916", parts from the "Kiss of Death" and "Motorizer"

The lyrics and vocals are well delivered. I heard from reading "professional" reviews Lemmy struggled to deliver on this album. I think the exact opposite of that. He sounds as strong as ever and at parts he sounds like his voice did in the 90's. The rhyming and catchyness to the entire album do have a feel of 90's Motorhead. Some songs like I KNOW HOW TO DIE and I KNOW WHAT YOU NEED def. sound like they could have been off "1916"

GET BACK IN LINE has a very great lyric IMO. It almost seems like it could be as big as the lyc off Ace of Spades "You know I'm gonna lose and gamblings for fools but thats the way I like it baby I don't wanna live forever" GET BACK IN LINE has a very clever rhyming Lyc that I think should be on the same field of play with that line. "....Why do we vote for faceless dogs ? We always take the bait, All things come to he who waits, But all things come too late !!!"

Lemmys lyrics are a lot better than on Motorizer or Kiss of Death, and I loved those albums. I just can't comprehend how the music seems to be getting better.

My rating for their past four albums :

1. Inferno & The World is Yours (Tie)
2. Kiss of Death
3. Motorizer
4.

The breakdown of the tracks are as follows.

1. Born To lose 10/10 (someone once said the first track off a motorhead album always seems to be like their next huge concert song this is no exception)

2. I know how to die 9.5/10 (You'll find yourself trying to sing this one with a Lemmy voice)
3. Get Back In line 10/10 (Just too good not to like)
4. Devils In My Head 9.5/10 (Catchy and good riffs)
5. Rock 'n' Roll Music 10/10 (This song is awesome and is so true as long as Motorhead still going)
6. Waiting for the Snake 8.5/10 (Not my fav. however the riff in the song kicks a$$)
7. Brotherhood of Man 10/10 (like someone else said seems like it could have been off Orgasmatron)
8. Outlaw 10/10 (Just may be my fav. song off the album)
9. I Know What You Need 9/10 (Very catchy, no filler here at the end of the album)
10. Bye Bye Bit*h Bye Bye 9/10 (A good way to end the album, I have a feeling this will be played on tour)

95.5 Rating out of 100 (Yes this album is that good)

As most Motorhead albums do it may take a couple listens to grow on you and for you to hear the songs as individual songs, once it does you'll agree with this rating.

If you want a kick a$$ album to own buy this and listen to some real music!!

Cheers everyone
