4.0 out of 5 stars Very Inspiring Aug 26 2009

Format:Paperback
My kids are 8 and 2 so I read a lot of parenting books. There are a few books out there about raising kids to be more aware. This one is a little bit of a different take.. Well more so a different style. I liked that it had a combination of tips that are tangible and easy to implement as well as stories by parents and about kids who have shown that with good parenting, we can help our kids to think outside of themselves as they grow older. I prefer books that do more than give me "to do" tasks. The authors used real-life stories to show how these to-dos work! Definitely not an easy task, but who said parenting was easy!!! It was a very uplifting book with really heartfelt stories. I do recommend this book to other parents looking to help nurture their children to live a more meaningful life, a life in which their kids think of their communities and the people around the world and not just "me, me, me".

Whether you're a parent or an educator or love to work with kids, this book will help you teach youth about social responsibility, compassion and personal fulfillment. It is filled with practical advice and inspiring stories to engage both a child's gifts and passion. It also gives great advice for common problems like apathy, over-parenting and adversity. Keep it close by, whether at home or in the classroom!

I'm thrilled to see the Kielburgers and Shelley Page have created a guide for raising a generation of global citizens.

Without giving away too much about the book, the Kielburgers and Page discuss how they learned 'The Three Cs,' compassion, courage and community, from their parents, teachers and mentors.

Personally, I really enjoyed reading Sarah Polley's contribution to this book. While learning about the events that inspired her compassion towards others, I couldn't help but think of watching Road to Avonlea with my own family while growing up.

The World Needs Your Kid is a great read for parents and teachers interested in inspiring their children to care and contribute to the world around them.
