Get Into Your Own Zone, Mar 30 2010
By Derric "Rau Khu" Moore author of MAA ... - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Zone Diet (Paperback)
I like many others who discovered this book, did so only after trying failed diets. Like many I tried a lot of the fad diets based upon other peoples' recommendations and theories. I tried vegetarianism and the vegan diet and I still didn't feel 100%. I even took handfuls of supplements while engaging in these dietary lifestyles and still nothing. It wasn't until I started noticing that a lot of the people I associated with that were vegetarians and vegans had illnesses that supposedly, theoretical they were not supposed to have like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, etc.
Then when my body became ill, I had to make some serious changes to my diet in order to recover. It was through a series of trial and error that made me realize that my body simply was not getting the necessary nutrients it needed to function. When I began to look at my family history and observe the times. I also noticed that a lot of my family's health problems began when family members began adapting to the fast paced lifestyle by consuming more processed foods. As this transition took place in my family between the late 1970s and 1980s, I noticed more burgers, sweets and a host of junk food was eaten. It wasn't too long after, home cooked meals became a thing of the past as microwavable dinners became the "in thing".
When I finally read this book, that's when it dawned on me that the problem I was having in the past in regards to my own diet. Was that even though I adopted a so-called healthier diet I didn't necessary adopt the lifestyle. Even the consumption of vitamins and other supplements were done in what I consider to be a non-holistic, fast paced manner. This explained the reason why I was, and why I met and knew people that were vegetarians and vegans but still unhealthy.
Although, I do not agree 100% with the author and his recommendations, I do agree about 95% and have since then made considerable changes, which have improved my health overall greatly. The 5% part of me that disagrees with the author is based upon my own personal preference. I do not believe that any food is wrong or not good because if it was it would be so across the board. I believe instead that anything not done in moderation and in excess is what leads to dis-order, dis-ease and ill-ness. For instance, I love Jamaican patties (turnovers) and I enjoy cooking them even though I probably won't make them the authentic way, but to help in the rising process I use butter. I do not eat them every time nor do I consume butter all of the time. It is all done in moderation. What this means is that what works for one may not work for another and so on. Each individual has to choose based upon what makes their body functions at its highest potential.
I do recommend this book because it is one of the best books written that explains a lot and supports in my opinion the old way of consuming food, for nutrition first and taste second.

First of all I have yet to receive the book. It has almost been a month since I ordered it. They said it was out of stock in the U.S. store and had to ship it from the U.K. and could not notify me because their computer does it automatically. Well I think they should take responsibility for their products not reaching their consumers in the said amount of time. I am still waiting for my book and will avoid ordering from this book seller, I recommend you do the same.
